S22 Ultra: what do we all think of the very Note like S22 Ultra?

Time will tell when Samsung shows their next unpacked event that showcases their new phones.

I'm really sad. I have waited S22 ultra but if the leaks is true and it will be S22 note. 100% I don't buy it. The note design is terrible, S series ultra modell is the best phone. I don't understand why kill it. From s6+ I had always s + series,and after it s ultra. I don't need s-pen for phone, but after this I can't buy good hardware without s-pen. I'm disappointed on samsung now.

I own a case business and we've already got our s22 ultra design which does indeed match the leaks. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news for you but the s22 ultra will 100% be this note look we have seen. Whether that continues to the s23 we shall wait and see.

Well, done gone and ordered the thing lol...

Likes: The 1TB Storage, Storage for the Pen is actually in the phone unlike the S21

Dislikes: the 12GB RAM which in MHO is a really, really poor backward step from the 16GB in the S21 Ultra 512GB

Camera etc etc I will wait and see after getting it. The great thing about buying on line in the UK really has to be the distance selling regs, dont like it after getting it?  Back it goes!!!!

I caught snippets of the unpacked event as I was at work.

I'm going to properly watch the Samsung Unpacked Event as I'm also interested in the Samsung Galaxy s22 Ultra.

In regards to ram these phone's are so well optimised I think we'll find that 12Gb is more than ample.

Have you had a look at any cases yet ?

I usually go for the minimalist look so choose the leather back clip on options.

Case's?  I just went with the Galaxy S22 Ultra Smart Clear View Cover one, it's the same as the one I have on my S21 Ultra.

Have to see just how big the phone really is, I may end up getting a leather case later.

The pre ordering page gave me 10 choices of case's so I went with the Black Leather Back case which was then discounted to around half price I think so winner winner. 👍

I chose the Samsung Galaxy s22 Ultra 256gb with 12gb Ram in Black.

Well, it arrived on Monday 21st Feb 2022 @ 10:12....  All nice and shiny.

Charged it up (was 62% out of the box) and copied all the stuff over from my S21 to the S22 Ultra 1TB and then put it to one side while waiting for a selection of screen protectors and leather case from amazon to arrive...

22nd... Amazon delivery fella rocks up with the case and a selection of screen protectors. Put a tempered glass one on, that went well, not... odd but I ended up with two pretty neat rows of little bubbles appx 15mm in from each side and all the way from end to end of the screen.... Hey ho, obviously need more practice putting those on lol. So off it came & and replaced with a normal protector for now.

So, had the phone now for nigh on 3 days and have used it for 2 days. Thoughts so far... Samsung S21 Ultra 5G 16 GB 512GB vs Samsung S22 Ultra 12GB 1TB

Pro's

1. It's nice and shiny.

2. Storage is good.

3. Pictures are good, but then saying that I haven't really given the camera a good work out yet.

4. It makes phone calls.

5. It can send & receive emails.

Negs

1. I'm not impressed with the somewhat stingy 12GB of ram against the 16GB ram of the S21, at the price we are paying for this I kind of think they could have put 16GB in. This will be used along with a flir one pro Infra Red Thermal Camera for smart phones. Time will tell if the memory difference has an effect.

2. Camera Lens left all 'sticking out of the case' on the S22 instead of within a moulding as in the S21.  Really, really does make finding a lens protector for the camera lens and a decent case that is compatible as a lot of cases either just have holes for the lens to poke through or the cut out in the case is ever so slightly to small for the lens protector when fitted.  As an example the Samsung Active Case, no way is a lens protector going to work on that while with the S21 it does very well.

3. The pen location, probably just me but Im used to the pen being held on the side of the case with the S21, this one is going to take some getting used to so long as I don't lose the thing first because I haven't clipped it back in properly...  Time will tell.

I haven't tried to replicate the 'screen issue' that everyone seems to harping on about yet.

I am yet to be convinced that the phone is worth the cost over a S21 Ultra 512GB. I'm currently 60/40 in favour of the S22 but that could be the novelty and shiny new phone factor kicking in! Time (the next week) will tell if that changes.
