Extend Unlock: This feature allows your phone to stay unlocked when you're connected to Bluetooth devices or in specific locations. You can turn this feature on or off by going to Settings > Lock screen and AOD > Extend Unlock.
Smart Lock: This feature allows your phone to unlock itself when it's in trusted locations or when other devices are detected. You can turn this feature off by going to Settings > Lock screen and security > Smart Lock > On-body detection.
Perform a soft reset
Press and hold down the power and volume down keys until the screen turns black and the Samsung logo appears.
You can also go to support in the members app. Diagnostics, test the side buttons to see if it has any issues.
If so contact samsung or visit a samsung service center. May need the side button repaired.

@SniffyBadger: This is certainly a strange one. Can you confirm if the device is unlocking to the Home screen, or to a particular app? Also, is it occurring accidentally (for instance, while the phone is in your pocket) or are you simply pressing the Side button, and the phone is unlocking?
It's odd, because even with low security measures, you would still be required to swipe upwards on the screen to unlock the phone, so I'm not too sure what could be causing this to happen.
