Priced out of upgrading

My 24 month contract with EE has just lapsed.  Previously I had an S20+ 128GB, I had a 256GB memory card and am at 80% capacity.  I wanted to upgrade to an S22+ 256GB:

Price of S20 128GB on Unlimited Calls, Text and 10GB (Upgraded to 30GB) Data on EE for 24 months in 2020: £52.85 per month.

Price of S22 256GB on Unlimited Calls, Text and 10GB Data on EE for 24 months in 2022: £67 per month.

Inflation of 26% in two years and what do we have to show for it?  A piece of silicon on a smaller fabrication process, but otherwise the same chip, otherwise the same handset.  Oh, and no SD card...because that's what users want?

I've owned Samsung phones for over 10 years now, but I've been priced out of the market and refuse to pay that sort of money for a phone.

Disappointing.

Why is the cost of EEs plans anything to do with Samsung? BTW, not same chip, not same RAM, not same camera. The difference in the RRP is only £100. I think you are barking up the wrong tree.

Would ee take your previous phone in as a trade in or sell the current phone and use the funds to pay against your upgraded contact,  or maybe look at upgrading through Carphone Warehouse.

Another option is to go sim free as those types of tariffs can be cheaper , sell the previous phone and use that to help buy the phone outright , disposable income allowing.

Or wait a while and see if the deals improve with ee for the phone.

If your current phone is OK you could skip the s²² series and await the s²³ series.

Look at other network providers and see if you can haggle them for a better deal!
I've been a ee customer now since the days off orange and just recently I managed to knock off a additional10 pound a month for my s22 Ultra

Selling sites like ebay can be an option as @Easty suggests however only buy from a trusted seller and even then be very very cautious.

We've seen previous posts where a phone has locked out not too long after buying it due to insurance fraud or in extreme cases the phone has turned out to be a clone.

The same when buying from Amazon.

The S20+ is a really great phone. But although the differences seem small. Collectively they make a better user experience and you'd notice the difference especially from an older phone.
Do you have to stick to EE or can you just move to another service provider
I'm sure there are better deals out there. Or just wait another month or two

Hi @Easty

I hope you are well 👍

Pay through PayPal and you're protected incase of any issues ,  has saved me a few times with scam / rogue sellers 😁 "

I'm glad this has been the case with those affected purchases however I wouldn't personally want to go through the potential issues of coming across these *  scam / rogue traders that you've had to contend with via ebay.

However on balance obviously not every seller has those bogus intentions.

I've been with EE for years and got better upgrade deals with third party retailers.
