One 7 UI update and camera failed issue - Samsung S22 Plus

Since being forced to update to One 7 UI the standard camera app frequently crashes on my S22 Plus, as well as rediculous battery drain and forced AI background tasks which you can't turn off.

Sometimes the camera will work and allow me to take a few pictures and videos. Then it'll randomly crash and say camera failed. It's hit and miss whether the camera app will work again when I open it.

I've done the following so far:
Reset camera settings, cleared cache, disabled and re-enabled the camera and the issue still randomly appears.
Factory reset the phone via the Settings method, and another time in Recovery mode. Yes I've done it twice. The camera failed again randomly after both recoveries. One with my data restored, and another with just a blank profile (not signed in to Google or Samsung). Same issue.
Ran the Samsung Members diagnosistics and it gets stuck on the camera test and won't proceed.
Removed the back cover, and re-seated all connections from the camera modules. Issue still persists.
The same issue happens in Safe Mode.

Samsung should give us the opportunity to revert back to Android 14 and One 6.1.
The amount of issues this update has caused is evident all over Google, Facebook, and in this forum.

I do not accept this is a hardware issue with multiple reports of the same problems since the One 7 UI update, and the camera app working on some occasions.
If it was a hardware failure, it wouldn't work all the time.

I also find it frustrating that since the last two minor Android 15 One 7 updates changing the Bin SW Rev from D, to E and F making it impossible to roll back to Android 14 One 6 Bin SW Rev D. This is an underhanded tactic to stop anyone rolling back, and big no no in the world of software development and rolling out updates to Dev and Production environments.

I'm not suprised if this ends up going down the the legal route and action taken against Samsung due to the amount of customers impacted. Remember when Apple intentionally slowed down older iPhones to manage battery performance,  a practice known as "throttling, forcing users to buy a new phone.

This has also made me consider an alternative brand for my next phone after using Samsung since the early 2000s.

EDIT
I've just ran through diagnostics, and it completed the camera test. I opened the camera app, it let me take a picture. Closed the app. Re-opened it and it paused and displayed the camera failed error.

EDIT2
A different error has been seen Server error occurred. Restart camera.

Not a hardware issue, as it was perfectly fine before the UI 7 update and the camera sometimes works after resetting settings in the app.
This is software issue cause by the latest UI update.
During the diagnostics test the camera crashes hence why I said it gets stuck during the camera test.

From all of the troubleshooting you have carried out, and the fact the camera crashes during the hardware test in the Samsung Members app, this would indicate there is a hardware fault occurring with the camera, just as @Tourbillon De La Vie has pointed out. This aligns with the intermittent behaviour you have mentioned. At this stage, it's best to get your phone inspected by one of our engineers so we can get this fixed. We have left a link below to get this booked in.

Ive been dealing with this since thr update on s23plus. I finally decided to use dev tools and adb. It is NOT a hardware issue. Since the update several Apex directories are missing, and samsung background processes are causing issues.

How do I know its not hardware? Because I can open the camera in selfie mode... then switch it to PRO VIDEO and my rear camera works fine. But it will not work in camera mode or regular video mode. Theres major issues in the debug file that are screaming software update deficiency. I have found that both the biometric service and the Face Service (to keep screen on when looking at it) are 2 culprits that crash the rear camera when features are turned on.

This is very frustrating and no one is even looking to fix it. Everyone assumes hardware when the only thing that changed was an update. Samsung either knows about this and is covering it up claiming hardware, or they refuse to fix it.

I've given up with Samsung, sent it off to Samsung Recycle for cash, and bought a Google Pixel 8 instead.

Will never by another Samsung mobile phone after this issues with their forced software updates without the option to rollback.

Literally ME! I've done everything I could possibly do, including a factory reset & this is what constantly pops up when I try to take pictures & oh god, don't even get me started when I try to take video.. it's an absolute joke & I'm pissed!!! I even spoke with samsung support... they've told me everything I've already done. They said i can send it in for repair...I don't trust them!

I also wanted to point out, EVERYTHING was perfectly fine before this update 💯

Same Problem on S22 Ultra.

Not a hardware issue. I even replaced the camera with a known working one, same exact issue. When using a third party camera app, I can most times force the rear camera to work, by first changing to the front camera and then switching to the back camera (you might try this, as this finally provides proof against the 'hardware issue' statement...). I used Open Camera for this.

Please please Samsung, fix our phones - or rather, please don't break them. I don't want to replace it yet, it would be such a waste, but such an unusable camera is really hard to compensate 😞
