Hi, I have a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G mobile and recently got an update to One UI 5.1. Ever since the update, I haven’t been able to connect to my mobile network. Everything was working before the update. I have tried a number of things to get it working including another SIM card, resetting the network settings, wiping the device partition cache and factory resetting the phone. None of these fixed the issue. I know the issue is with the phone update and not the SIM as the the SIM works in other phones. Is there any other fix or workaround available ? Is anyone else having the same issue ?

Hi all.

I've had this issue since January 2024. I have tried EVERYTHING, nothing worked until now.

I came across this video on YouTube:

https://youtu.be/KEDObAyYCJ0?si=T95Yv6ZkQpJdcu6Q

That was exactly what was wrong with the phone. A broken Antenna FPC connector on the motherboard.

I really don't understand why the phone was working fine until I performed a software update and/or how it caused a hardware issue. If the connector had been broken all this while, why did the fault only show up after the update? Or was it just a coincidence? No idea.

Anyway, it's a pretty delicate process to get it fixed. Not everyone would be able or willing to do so. But at least take the phone to a repair centre and see if that's the same problem it has.

My phone is working perfectly now with mobile signal, mobile data, 5G.

Wish you all the best with it.

Thank you for sharing that info/video. How has your phone been doing since your post? How long has it been since the repair? I know prices vary depending on the shop and location in the world but I'm curious how much it cost to have that replacement done.

It's been a week since the repair, and the phone has been working flawlessly since then. There have been no issues at all.
I've got the dual-sim version as well, and both SIMs have had no problem with mobile signal and/or data.
I repaired the phone by myself. I wouldn't recommend anyone to do that if you don't already have a knack for doing things like that. Unfortunately, I don't really know how much it would cost to fix it at a repair center. The parts needed are inexpensive, though. I replaced the FPC connector and even decided to replace the antenna flex cable as well for less than £10.

Hi, You have done all the same things most to all of us here have done too. If anything changed it was only temporary. Unfortunately thats kinda it. Samsung knows about the issue and is ignoring the LARGE number of people all having the same problem.

I had a small amount of luck with updating the APN settings (Access Point Name Settings) and got them by calling my cell service provider.

It was just a temp fix that MANY of us have done but might be worth investigating to know you've done all you can. They are located somewhere in the SIM settings but the mobile company walked me through it.

As far as I can tell (from other groups too) only 1 person has done 1 extra thing and had any luck. You can find that info in the last 3 posts to this group before your post.

"Mycroftmic" posted what they did to fix their phone, I replied with questions and they provided follow up. Review that info. Its only been 2 weeks since their phone repair so it may be too soon to know if its a temp or permanent fix.

Personally, after trying all of the troubleshooting many times (including changing cell service providers) I took my phone to a Samsung authorized service center and it was a waste of time. The moment I said Note 20 and no data connection he said "we cant fix it".

He said a bunch of stuff about about the part of the motherboard that would effect data was too close to the SIM tray and they'd just have to replace the whole motherboard, REALLY expensive, blah blah blah.

AND because of a small crack on my screen he shared that even IF it was fixable there is a contract agreement with Samsung that the screen HAS TO BE replaced as well..... EVEN IF I am paying out of pocket and not using a warranty. (which is rediculous!) So, if you do try taking it to a shop I would NOT go to one that is Samsung authorized.... just a reputable repair shop.

As mentioned, I went through the troubleshooting list many times and it bought me time repeating the process when my phone would act up again but now that process doent help at all. I cant even use Wifi calling. I had to buy a new phone.

Sorry to share all the bad news.

I am not sure if this is helpful or not but I will share my experience in case it is. I recently replaced my Sim as my call quality was bad. I am with Smarty and I guess it is their policy to deactivate the old sim until the new one arrives and then you activate it. Data on my old sim worked fine and calls from my side worked fine, people just had issues hearing me or there was a delay. So I did not even know there was a sim/samsumg issue until I replaced it. After 5 hrs on support with Smarty which was no help I was convinced the issue was a sim/Smarty issue and changed providers. I switched to talkmobile, put the sim in and same issue (APN/Access points don't show up even if when adding one manually which is why I thought it was an activation/Smarty issue). After more help from Google I found this an other threads saying the issue was related to an update/Samsung and cannot be fixed.

I tried the new sim in an older phone and that worked so I know it isn't the sim and is the phone (guess I was mad at Smarty for no reason, although the troubleshooting should not have taken 5 hrs). I reset my network settings, restored default APNs, added APNs manually and basically did all but factory reset my phone and nothing worked. In one last ditch effort I decided to see if an esim would work (I need data soon so was hoping that would work) and it did. Even better the esim somehow forced my phone to recognize my actual sim and I have data with just the physical sim with wifi turned off). I was able to recreate the same environment with my talk mobile sim so this could be an option for people to try.

I don't remember the exact steps but try a combination of the below:

  • Test sim on an older phone if possible to ensure sim is not the issue
  • Insert sim
  • Purchase esim (I did 5 days so I can't be sure things will work until that is up but you can do less)
  • Activate esim
  • Restart device
  • Keep physical sim as primary
  • Turn on data roaming and turn off wifi
  • Check to see you can access the internet
  • Turn off physical sim so esim is primary (can also remove but turning off worked for me)
  • You should still be able to access the internet
  • I think I may have restarted again
  • Make physical sim the primary
  • See that you still have access to the internet
  • Turn off esim
  • See that you still have access to the internet
  • Restart device
  • You can keep esim off and turn wifi on but should still have internet access

Another thing to note, once I had mobile data I was able to see access point names for both sims. I was also able to see network operators for both sims.

I have samsung note 20 ultra. Sorry for the super long and rambley post. I am not a tech expert but know enough to usually be able to resolve things on my own. I know purchasing an esim even a 1 day one may not be feasible for some people and your issue may be different than mine but hopefully this helps someone.

There was an update on August 28, 2024. I updated my phone and a few hours later my network went out. I've been without any service since then. Annoyed with the situation I kept messaging my provider and they sent me a new SIM card. It worked for five minutes before going offline again. I've been on here and everywhere looking for a solution as I did everything besides a factory reset.  Rn, I was scrolling on YT and found this video. ->https://youtu.be/p057Vy-6SQI?si=xo1OxW5rrqvJgz5n. Turning off my SIM card, then hitting restart to turn it back on after it restarted worked. The only thing is it's stuck on. The mobile data icon doesn't turn off when I click on it. I'm happy with that than no service at all. If I want it off I just turn on airplane mode and turn on my wifi if I want to connect to my wifi at home.  I've only had this phone for two years. I rather have it until I'm forced to upgrade by my phone provider.

Hi All,

I am happy to inform everyone that I have solved this problem. I too experienced the issues as previously described after updating to UI 5.1 on October 27, 2024 at 11:44am.

I just returned from my local cellphone repair shop on the island of Mauritius, and they solved the problem in 1 hour by replacing the cable in the photo, and charged me 2500 rupies, which is about $45.

I think downgrading the phone could solve the problem, but I'm sure if any of you have tried this because the update might be the one to cause problems
