Why doesn't USB-C audio work?

I am forever irritated by the removal of a completely functional port in the form of a headphone jack.

I've upgraded from my deteriorating A72 (bought because it had a headphone jack) to an A55 and bought USB-C to 3.5mm adapters in advance - both an Apple one as it was reasonably priced, and an average one from amazon. Neither work with my Meze headphones that work perfectly in every other device that has a headphone jack. I've tried every fix I can find online, but nothing works. Dev options don't change anything, clearing caches doesn't work either. Why doesn't USB-C audio work out of the box? There's not even an option for audio in the USB settings. Are there any actual fixes for this issue or am I stuck with a device that's worse than my last one?

I'm not buying USB-C specific headphones when I have a perfectly working pair that sound great.

Hey there and welcome to the Samsung UK Community Forum

Sorry to hear of the difficulties you're having.

I have USB C headphones and they work absolutely fine.

So either your issue is with the adapter or your headphones.....

Hi, and welcome to the UK community

It might be the adapter. Try to get hold of an official Samsung one, or if not then at least one with a built in DAC.

My almost £200 headphones that have zero issues in my old Samsung that had a headphone jack and work in every single other device I have are not the issue.

Samsung don't sell their adapter any more. I don't trust Amazon to sell legitimate branded accessories from mobile phone manufacturers.

The link I posted above was for a U-Green adaptor. The link below is for the Anker.

Both incorporate DAC

I have an apple and Google usb c to 3.5mm headphone jack adaptor. Both cost about £10. They both work with my A34 but the apple one has a known issue in that the volume is limited and the headphones are quiet. The Google adaptor is fine and works perfect.

I would have gotten a Google one but they don't sell them any more. The apple one doesn't work at all and the UGREEN one I got off amazon produces a low quality stereo sound where only one side is audible through both earphones
