This morning's ui8 update has left me without a phone as now the Sim is no longer detected.

after trying all the online suggestions (including multiple mobile setting resets) I tried a factory reset. However, this also downloaded ui8 , so that didn't work either.

I've just noticed the GPS reception is also non functioning.

I have raised an error report and received an acknowledgement.

I seen a few other's with the same problem.

Spent all afternoon trying to roll back to UI7 but guess what there security features won't let you. Guess that's the best security you can get disable your phone so it doesn't work!!!

I really hope they do a patched release as I don't want to have to bin the A53. I'm never going to use it as my main phone again but I hate to add to the recycle pile for no good reason.

This'll be their knox system. Presumably named after fort knox , a place renowned for blocking phone use.

Ok, good news: flashing with UI7 does not break the automatic update process. Bad news: it does not break the automatic process and Samsung did not stop pushing the buggy firmware to the devices. I did not find quickly where to disable it and I thought I have some time and would be asked to accept an update but now it takes place without a warning 😞

Hey MrGkyn, just got my Motorola edge 50 neo really impressed, easy to set up and better specs for for around the same money as the A53. I went for the 12Gb ram 512 GB storage at £239 on Amazon so similar to what I paid for A53 about 6 months ago. Really nice phone so far. Just thought I would let you know.

Can you provide the details of how you achieved the refresh. I'd like to gain something positive from this experience.

This will be my last post on here (I can hear Samsung cheering) now switched phones so no need for this forum anymore. I wish you all the best of luck in getting your phones working. One thought did cross my mind you can always take Samsung to your local court for a judgement, you can do it online for £50. I don't think they have a leg to stand on in court as they have made your phone unfit for purpose, which is a clear breach of your consumer rights. It also doesn't matter what they have written in their 10,000 word user agreement if you local judge thinks its unreasonable, tough luck Samsung. It wouldn't come to that anyway as it would cost them a £1000 just to get lawyer into court, they would just pay you off. I did it before to a big company and won easily. Food for thought.
