after update to OneUI 5.1 my fingerprint sensor stopped working at random times. it fixed after couple of restarts. but after the recent security update, it stopped working and no restart does the work.

I searched and tried the solutions mentioned by others:

" i accessed the "checks/actions" but none of these applied to when you cannot even get into the scanner. I also accessed "Samsung Members app > Support > Phone diagnostics > Fingerprint scanner." but there was no fingerprint scanner option as it is not functioning... "

but got the same results as @PeteSa said.

when I go to the Settings > Security and privacy > Biometrics > Fingerprints, it says "Fingerprint sensor not working. if this keeps happening, restart your phone."

doesn't that mean it's a known bug?
why didn't they fix it?
no new updates and no ways to fix. what should I do?

Is it how samsung treats their customers?

The next step to fix an Android fingerprint issue is to reset the phone’s system cache. This process will not harm your Samsung Galaxy A22 but will clear the system cache. The system cache is used by the operating system and applications to store files and other data. Make sure to perform this process every time you update your Samsung Galaxy A22. Once you’ve done this, you can test the fingerprint again to make sure it’s working. And don’t forget to back up your data before trying this solution.

If the sensor is not functioning, you should re-calibrate your Samsung Galaxy A22. This can be done in several ways. The first way is to go into settings and click on biometrics. Then, choose security. Scroll down to the fingerprint section. You should see options to remove your existing fingerprints. Remove all of your fingerprints. This should clear up the problem. Then, you can try to set your finger again.

hi
as i mentioned in my post, I can't go into the fingerprint section, there is the "Fingerprint sensor not working. if this keeps happening, restart your phone." error blocking me.

I did wipe the system cache with the following instructions:

  1. Turn OFF your phone and remove any charging cables
  2. Press and hold the Volume UP and POWER buttons at the same time
  3. Release the buttons after the phone powers on and displays the Android logo
  4. The phone will display No Command; after several seconds, The Android Recovery Menu should appear
    • If No Command doesn't disappear: hold the POWER button, press the Volume UP button, and release both at the same time
    • Note: If the Android logo followed by the Android Recovery Menu doesn't appear, you'll need to start the process again
  5. Press the Volume DOWN button to highlight wipe cache partition
  6. Press the POWER button to select it
  7. Press the Volume DOWN button to highlight Yes and press the POWER button to select it
  8. After the Cache Wipe is complete, menu items will reappear, with Reboot system now highlighted
  9. Press the POWER button to select it

that also didn't work.

any other suggestion?

Then I suggest you to go to official service center, may be they degrade from your current update and try again.

can't I do it myself?

I think you have done the most thing possible as you can. Now it's technical time. If anything happens otherwise samsung will not give you warranty if any left

@Some1too: Please can you try heading to the Samsung Members app > Press and hold on the app icon > Diagnostics > Phone diagnostics, then tap on 'Fingerprint recognition'. If the test flags any issues, or if an 'Action required' message is visible in the summary at the end of the test, then please head to samsung.com > Scroll to the bottom of the page > Contact us, and reach out to our Support Team via your preferred contact method, and an advisor will be able to arrange for the device to be inspected and repaired by an authorised Samsung engineer.

I did all the same as you have done on my A22 and in the end, I upgraded to a new Galaxy A54.  This model's fingerprint sensor is built into the actual phone display, which is much better than the seperate side panel that's on the A22 I am finding.

Good luck trying to get the A22 fingerprint sensor fixed, but if not the A54 does solve the problems I am finding
