Blue and green text messages

Hi. Can anyone explain the difference between green and blue text bubbles please. Thanks in advance

MMM my phone is always connected to internet either wifi or mobile data...this answer whilst it may be right makes no sense...especially as some of my green messages were sent whilst connected to wifi at home??

....and reading here I can see that there is an option to turn chats off but I haven't done that...just texted in the usual way...but some green and some blue

Hi why is my message going green to another Samsung I have selected the 3 dots but chat message is not an option so how can I get the messages to go blue like they used to. Can so.e o e ease help.

@kelcam: If you're using a device that supports Chat features then, to begin with, please swipe up from your Home screen and head to Settings > Connections > More connection settings > Rich communications, and toggle this option on. 

Now, head to the Messages app > Tap the 3 dots in the top right > Settings > Chat settings > Chat features > On > Default message type > Automatic. Please note that a message can only be sent as a chat if you are connected to a Wi-Fi network, and the recipient of the message also has chat features enabled.

I've noticed if the persons phone you're messaging is off or thier Internet connection is lost or if they don't have data it will be a green box instead of blue

Can someone tell me what it means if the option to switch from blue to green has gone from contract and the blue dot has gone from contract number
Is it possible the person has no Internet connection data and run put of credit on there phone
