Hi,
I have a Samsung Galaxy A53 5G. When I am using the phone, the person on the other end of the line cannot hear me properly. I'm told the volume sounds very low, or that my voice keeps cutting in and out; even though I can hear them just fine. I have tried resetting my phone, but not a factory reset... Yet!

Could I have changed something in my settings that has caused this? Could it be a hardware or software issue? Or could the microphone itself be broken?

Many thanks,

Brian

There's a diagnostic test found in the Samsung Members app that can help. It's under support > Phone diagnostic > Microphone. If your able to hear yourself clearly, the mic is working as normal. This could be related to signal/network strength too

Hi, @Fuggle77. In addition to what @LeighJamie has suggested, I definitely recommend consulting and following the steps in the guide below:

https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/what-to-do-if-the-sound-on-your-galaxy-smartphone-...

I expect that going through these steps will get your calls on the A53 sounded as expected again.

Please let us know when you get this resolved.

Hi Fuggle77,

I posted about this issue a few weeks ago (https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/galaxy-a-series/galaxy-a53-microphone-not-working-during-calls/t...). I tried everything to fix it including a full factory reset but nothing worked. I had to send it off to Samsung to be fixed and I received the phone back today. There was nothing in the box to tell me what had been 'fixed' (if anything) and having just tried it, it's exactly the same...! I'll call Samsung tomorrow to see what happens next. Good luck with yours.

One thing you might want to try is Samsung’s ‘loopback’ diagnostic test. Use the Phone app and dial *#0283#. This will bring you to a menu that lets you test out both microphones and speakers via a loopback. The mic 1 option is to test it out as if it were a normal call. The mic 2 option is a speakerphone option. For me, the second option (speakerphone) was fine but the first option (as if it were a normal call) was dreadful. It was really quiet and/or choppy exactly as you describe.

Just to give you an update on my situation, I spoke to Samsung today and I now know why the “repair” made no difference. It’s because their technician found nothing wrong! Clearly, they didn’t try the simple loopback test as it would have been immediately apparent. Ironically, when talking to Samsung today, when I switched from speakerphone to normal phone, the call handler couldn’t hear me. Well exactly!! Anyway, I’m now going to contact the retailer for a refund/exchange as I can’t be bothered to send it away again just for nothing to be done.

same problem here i recorded a tiktok and the mic is very low. i guess the problem is in the operating system built in settings that u cannot change without root folder access. i hope that Samsung will hire better testing teams, that mistake cost a lot of money to the company and to the customers. we are in 2024 and technology is stuck at 2010 😞
