Samsung A25 5G Battery Drain Since One UI 7 Update Even In Power Saving Mode

I bought my A25 5G around 15 months ago. After three months I noticed the battery was draining quickly even when not in use. After switching on in the morning the battery would drain quickly but a reboot would cure it for the remainder of the day. After a few weeks even that process stopped working and the battery drain was constant. I posted about this problem a year ago and received several replies but none of the solutions worked. I am a very light user and tend to use my 'phone for calls and WhatsApp. I have uninstalled all the apps that I can, turned off all notifications and automatic updates, done a factory reset and have cleaned the cache partition many times but the drain continued. 5 to 6% an hour in standby. I found that if I put my 'phone in power saving mode shortly after turning it on the battery drain slowed to almost nothing. Then came the latest One UI update!!! Even in power saving mode the battery now drains at 5 to 6% an hour in standby with 5G and Wi Fi switched off. Only flight mode seems to stop it. I bought a cheap Ulefone off Amazon and run all my apps on that because the Samsung is unusable. The Ulefone is absolutely brilliant! None of the unwanted garbage which Samsung deluge us with. I feel as though Samsung have stolen money off me because I have had a 'phone for 15 months now which is pretty well unusable. All Samsung can do is churn out the same "solutions" which I have already done. Absolutely no acceptance on their part that there could be a problem. I have had it with them. My 7th Samsung and my last. I am paying for software I don't want and will never use and why on earth should I have to have an account with them I don't want?? I simply want a usable 'phone. I was getting by with it until the new update and am now back to square one. What on earth is causing the battery to drain so fast in power saving mode unless it is a fault with the update? I honestly don't expect any sense from Samsung but any sensible ideas are welcome. Thanks.

Hi @wagnerman  A warm welcome to the Samsung Community.

Your Battery Drain seems to be at the higher end of the scale ,there can be issues after updates and usually some Troubleshooting can fix matters but you obviously tried a number of fixes.

Sometimes there can be a conflict with 3rd part apps or themes so an idea to start in Safe Mode to pinpoint causes (since these apps are disabled in this Mode) if you have installed many lately.   https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-to-start-my-galaxy-device-in-safe-mode/

Another idea is to try a Battery stats Reset but notice this was mentioned by @lminvti in a previous post of yours.

In security and Privacy ensure AutoBlocker is turned off. In the Samsung phone app Dial *#9900#  scroll down and Tap Batterystats Reset . Now Restart your Device.

However if this does not help your Device may need an  inspection ,see options on Samsung Support https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/contact/

I've also had the A25 for 15 months and have had no battery draining problems on it, even after the One UI 7 update. I've had no problems at all with One UI 7.

You claim you posted about this problem a year ago, but it shows you're yet another First Poster.

I am very pleased indeed to hear that your 'phone is working so well but mine is not. I am unsure why I am shown as a first poster. I do not "claim" to have posted as my post was on 20th May 2024 under heading "Samsung A25 5G Battery Drain". I am looking for some assistance rather than having my integrity questioned.

Many thanks indeed for your detailed response. I should have mentioned that I have also undertaken a battery stats reset. Unfortunately it has not helped. Perhaps I should also have mentioned that when I look at battery usage stats it does not make sense at all. With over 20% usage the total usage by the apps shown is less than 2% so what is the rest being used on? I wondered if it was a weak signal but I get 85 dBm 55 asu which is, I think, ok so I can rule out sim card issues. I don't think third party apps are an issue as to try and pinpoint the problem, I have uninstalled all apps other than Google apps, Samsung apps and WhatsApp. Thanks again for your help. I think that I will have to try Samsung Support again as all else seems to be failing!

I'll keep it short.

Battery Drainers

1. Always ON location in apps
2. Background data in apps
( Social apps are biggest culprits)
3. Redundant bluetooth devices under your account which you no longer use.

I know you have deleted a number of Apps, are the remaining apps up to date and if some apps are not used regular do you have them in sleep Mode which would be advisable. Just checking if you are only have connections running when necessary, yes a weak signal does have an impact but does not seem a particular issue in your case.

If none of the advice folk have mentioned helps yes you would need to get back in touch with Support.

If you have a limited number of posts your rank could still be First Poster ,even if your original post was a while ago.

Thanks again for your help. I think support is my only solution or to throw the 'phone away and buy a Motorola or other brand which actually works! I have been buying Samsung for years and they are getting way too complicated with games and apps pre-installed which I simply do not want. Sorry to moan but the number of hours I have wasted over the last year on this battery issue is unbelievable. I mentioned that I have been running then'phone in power saving mode and this solved the battery drain until the new update. Only yesterday the battery drained 25% in four hours in power saving mode without any use. It reached 47% and sat at that figure for two hours until I received a call. The battery dropped to 43% during an hour long call which I felt was ok. It only dropped another 1% over three hours until I went to bed. I put the 'phone in flight mode and at was 41% this morning i.e. a drop of 1% overnight. I thought this was great but my happiness was short lived! Over the next hour it dropped 5% without any use so what had happened other than putting it into and out of flight mode? I hope you can sense my frustration with a device which seem to have mind of it's own, has cost me £250.00 and is not fit for purpose. If only Samsung would accept that a device can be defective and jumping through every hoop on the planet will not make any difference other than waste an inordinate number of hours. Thanks again for your help. It is much appreciated.
