Samsung A25 5G Battery Drain

I purchased a new A25 5G around three months ago. I set it up using Smart Switch and all went fine. I am a very light user and have very few apps installed. I turn my 'phone off each night and on again the next morning. A couple of weeks ago after I switched it on one morning I noticed how quickly the battery was draining. Dropping 3/4% an hour even when I wasn't using the 'phone. Looking at the amount of battery used by each app did not help. The total amount shown as used by all apps is far less than the actual battery drainage. I found that rebooting the 'phone stopped the problem for a couple of days but it keeps returning. I have stopped all background scans on apps, stopped all but a few notifications and have also deleted the cache partition but the problem keeps returning. The phone is fine for a few days but then when switched on in the morning drains heavily until rebooted. I want to avoid a master reset if possible but am getting fed up with having to keep checking battery drain each morning to see if I need to reboot. All software and apps are up to date and I have followed all the Samsung tips to prevent battery drain. Any ideas/help will be very welcome!

It sounds like you've excluded most of the likely culprits, and if there was a hardware issue I'd expect it to be persistent rather than intermittent. If it's not an app, then it may be a process causing havoc. If you put screenshots up of your battery usage it might help diagnose it, but if you could also download an app that details memory usage (an example would be the Good Guardians app on the Samsung Store and then the module Memory Guardian ) This highlights in more detail which processes are running which may identify anything rogue.

Having said that, 3/4% per hour wouldn't be a huge drop if your mobile network or WiFi was struggling for a signal.

@Members_6M9F2Bx can you please try Safe Mode.

> Safe Mode  > https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-to-start-my-galaxy-device-in-safe-mode/ turns off downloaded apps and themes etc which may highlight an app or theme that's causing conflict. Alternatively long press the power off button and then ling hold on Turn Off to get to Safe Mode.

If i can be of any further help please don't hesitate to ask  😎

Many thanks for the advice. I have installed Good Guardians and the Memory Guardian module. After a couple of days without problems the battery drain returned this morning. Dropped 4% in an hour whilst at home, not using 'phone at all and with an excellent WiFi signal. I rebooted 'phone and it returned to normal battery usage dropping only 1% over 2 hours when not in use. Memory Guardian did not reveal anything untoward. I am wondering how accurate the battery remaining percentage figure show on the 'phone is. I use Protect Battery and only charge to 85%. It always drops to 82% quickly but then stays on 82% for quite some time before starting to drop again. I will continue to monitor it with Memory Guardian and see if, over time, something is revealed. Thanks again for your advice. Much appreciated.

No problem. You might be right that the battery percentage being shown isn't entirely accurate, and if the overall battery life is good then there may be no issue to worry about.

By the sounds of things, if a reboot is solving the problem temporarily, there may well be a process restarting that you have little control over. Google Play Services, with all of its location polling, and also Samsung apps doing the same, may be the culprit if you wanted to continue to delve. I try to restrict location permissions and scans to a minimum as they can eat battery very quietly in the background
