A52 5G microphone issues when talking from afar

I just bought an A52 5G and I'm experiencing some issues with the microphone when talking on speaker, e.g., video calls on WhatsApp or similar).

It looks like phone is always using the "regular" microphone with noise cancellation and never switches to those with the far field pickup. The result is that if I don't talk very close to the phone others can't hear me at all, hear cut offs, or a very muffled/metallic voice. I also tested this myself.

I tried testing the microphones on the audio loopback interface dialing *#0283# and selecting the two microphones to hear me back talking. They seem to both work as intended, but it's clear from there that the phone is always using RCV_1stMic (what looks like the microphone with noise cancellation used when talking with the phone close to the ears), and never switches to SPK_2ndMic (what looks like the microphone with the far field pickup). I'm pretty sure that the OS should switch automatically between the two depending on whether or not the speakers or on. I can't really find any option to set a "default" microphone or anything, and I'm not sure there should really be one at all.

At least, it doesn't look like an hardware problem to warrant return, but I'm a bit concerned that this might be something for which I need to wait for an OS update -- which might just never happen.

Anyone else experienced this issue?

Iv had 3 a52 of samsung and had issues with every one of them with regards to voice calls.. its annoying amd frustrating. Can hardly hear the convo on the other side and breaking up. I returned 2 in place for an exchange and same issue. When i rang customer service they go mics fine if u can hear urself..

That's... not good. What are you doing about it, keep returning until you get one that actually works? It sounds a lot like a software problem, not hardware.

I'm actually not very much inclined towards waiting that a magical OS update fixes it one day, because it may just never happen.

Iv returned it and ordered the a42 instead.. i do think its the software problem however as and when they fix it is another thing. When i did speak to them they pinned it on the network provider saying its the sim! But anything to get you off there back.

Painful to hear. How the heck can it even be remotely possible it's a SIM issue?

Do you have a case on ur phone cuz since iv taken mine off the quailty of the call much better

Not yet, just googling around for solutions as of now, but the shop where I bought it has a 14-days return policy.

To be honest with you id rather give it back and save ur self the hassle. Ov had 3 a52 and all have had the same voice issues..

I have the same issue and there is another thread going on here https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/galaxy-a-series/a52-5g-muffled-interupted-sound-at-the-other-end... the problems is that i cannot see Samsung stepping in with any advice at all.
