I am opening up this new message just to revive an existing message that is errantly marked as "Solved", even though the solution that is referenced clearly states that it is not solved. This problem centers around one of the two microphones within the Galaxy A12, mic 1 to be specific, that is no longer working. A growing number of people are saying the same thing has happened with them, which gives indication that something along the lines of a firmware upgrade or something of that nature is creating a problem.
This is a link to the existing still-ongoing discussion concerning this problem, but which is errant...

Have you submitted an Error report about the issue you've encountered with the mic on your A12?
If not, I recommend that you head to the Samsung Members App > Support > Under “Send Feedback” tap on “Error Reports” > Choose the most relevant category displayed. If none of these are related to the issue, select "Others". Be sure to provide a detailed description of the issue, then tap on "Send System Log Data".
Please include screenshots, videos, and audio files (if applicable) to support your query. Data can be added by tapping the paperclip icon (upper right). This will help us gain a better understanding of this situation. Once complete, please tap on "Send".
Once you do this, our experts will be in the best position to investigate this for you.

I think nwgeorgia1 was working with Samsung support already.
Multiple people reporting the same problem has to signal a problem in my world.

Yes. Last night I was working with someone via text chat through the Samsung Members app. We didn't get to any conclusive point, though. I am not aware of any formal "ticket" or anything that is open on the issue. I'm hoping that someone can see through this ongoing discussion that there is something needs to be addressed.

My fix was to turn off "Turn Over To Mute". This is when it mutes your phone when you lay it face down.

I've been having the same issue for a couple of weeks and using the headphones as the workaround. I don't know how relevant this will be but, prior to my internal mics going down, I had been using a lavalier wireless mic (Magic Pop Mics) as an external microphone. Just curious if anyone had anything else plugged in, prior to the issue arising.

I don't think it's related to headphones or external audio receivers, because since I've had mine, and I got it new... I haven't used any at all.

The problem is with the bottom mic on the phone. I strongly believe that a recent software update broke it.
When the A12 is not working with the bottom mic, it still works when in speaker mode which uses the top mic.
