I am opening up this new message just to revive an existing message that is errantly marked as "Solved", even though the solution that is referenced clearly states that it is not solved. This problem centers around one of the two microphones within the Galaxy A12, mic 1 to be specific, that is no longer working. A growing number of people are saying the same thing has happened with them, which gives indication that something along the lines of a firmware upgrade or something of that nature is creating a problem.

This is a link to the existing still-ongoing discussion concerning this problem, but which is errant...

Didn't work for me and, anyway, doesn't Turn Over to Mute just mute incoming?

Yes, but my latest update was Dec 23 and Ive only had the problem a couple of days.

BTW, another work-around: use the speaker function. Think it must use mic2.

Same issue with my A12. Mic does not work when using phone App or Voice recorder, but does record sound when recording a video

Yes, this worked for me, sort of... mine still does it, but not as often at all.

Thanks for that. I just tried that (placing my call on speaker) and it does work. I believe you are probably right in that it must switch over to mic 2.

Just to clarify... I did begin working with tech support, by way of the chat feature via the Samsung Members app. They stepped me through a number of things, all which seemed to be more so a basic scripted approach. I went back to factory default, deleted several files, things which actually led to more issues such as some of my contacts listings disappearing. The last thing they asked me to do was to go into safe mode and then get back with them and let them know once I was in safe mode and we would continue working the issue. Well, once your phone is in safe mode you cannot run any downloaded apps.... Samsung Members being one such app. So, I was unable to communicate with them while in safe mode. At that point it was late at night, I was already losing faith in what we were doing due to the results already seen, and I just dropped the matter.

Now with so many other people reporting the same issue it is obvious that something has taken place which has affected so many people in the exact same way... only mic 1 being affected. I don't have the time nor patience (at this point) to just plod through a long, long list of "let's try this", only to further exacerbate problems (i.e. losing files and contact details and who knows what else).

I think that there is more than enough evidence shown for Samsung to look internally and see what is happening that could cause this issue. You have test labs at your disposal where you can play around with testing this and that. I actually suspect that there is a good probability that someone may already be onto something with this issue. You just need to let people know. If someone has bricked people's phones, you need to do the right thing and remedy the matter and not keep quiet and leave everyone to take the loss and have to go buy another phone. If I am left to do that, you can rest assured that it won't be a Samsung phone.

Unfortunately it is not a new issue. I was using an A12 for about a year when this issue first happened about a year ago. As the device was under warranty from the provider they have sent me a new device, which just started to have the same issue. Exactly 1 week ago. I was talking on Tuesday evening on it, no issues whatsoever, next morning people started to hang up on me as they did not hear me at all. On speaker all works fine also with wired headset and with BT in the car.  Not sure what triggered the issue, but now I have 2 phones with the same issue. 1 is 2 years old the other just about 6 months old...

I will pop in to a phone repair shop to find out what do they think as it looks Samsung does not have a solution yet...

I have had the same problem.  I can make video calls and be heard perfectly, I can make calls on the speakerphone and there's no problem, but otherwise, I am muted.  I cannot update software because it says, Software Update interrupted.  It is very frustrating and I am getting ready to dump this phone.  I have spent more time trying to resolve the problem than I have using it. Enough.

I popped into a local repair shop where the chap - did not really explained the cause of it, but -  advised me that its a common hardware issue and the whole charging port board (where mic1 is located) need to be replaced. (they would charge me €55.00 for the job.)

Someone had posted something about this previously. They provided a link to a replacement board on eBay. I searched and found this one:

Also, this is a Youtube video giving step-by-step instructions as to how the board is to be replaced:
