Smart View cover notifications

Hello,

Is there a way to force the cover to display notifications all the time? It works fine if charging but otherwise it stops showing notifications after several minutes. Is this the desired behaviour or a bug? Thanks for answers.

Settings>Cover screen. Toggle on 'Show notifications'. Note what it says about Lock screen notifications.
