After an update last week, the A23 phone wont start. Nothing seems to work, it is completely dead.
SAMSUNG, what's going on with the phone and your update?????

Thank you for the information and suggestions. I received email notification from Samsung today that my phone will be returned to me via FedEx tomorrow (priority overnight shipping arrangements both ways were made by Samsung), evidently at no charge to me. However, I won't know until I try the phone whether it was actually repaired. Based on a previous text from Samsung and my phone conversation yesterday with a Samsung agent (which prompted my previous post to this group), it was not repaired because it was not under warranty (international version purchased in Canada 16 months ago). As I argued to Samsung, this should never have been considered a warranty situation, regardless, but rather a straightforward case of negligent damage due to Samsung's faulty update. However, based on a follow-up chat conversation with another Samsung agent this morning, as well as on the information shown on Track My Repair, it was repaired. I will post a final message tomorrow after I get my phone back (working or not).

I am currently in the same situation as RobJKR.
I have an out of warranty International, A23, purchased in Canada, that died after the latest update. I contacted Samsung Canada through their online chat feature. Samsung Canada provided me a prepaid FedEx weigh-bill to ship to a service centre. Then I received communication from Samsung Canada that my phone was out of warranty and there would be a fee. I provided them with a screenshot of the Chat transcript where the Samsung agent indicated, “It is a free service David” and told them that the Chat agent was aware my phone was out of warranty before they generated my ticket. They said they would get back to me either this afternoon or tomorrow afternoon regarding what they would or would not do for me.
Almost immediately I received an email with a FedEx, Outbound Tracking #. When I ‘Track My Repair’ using the link in the email, it indicates, “Your device has been repaired and delivered.”.
Fedex tracking shows the item is in transit. I did not receive a call back from Samsung, yet, and obviously I will not be able to confirm the phone is repaired until I receive it. The screenshot does show "Repaired" twice as well as the software update in the symptoms, so I am hopeful. I am fortunate for having kept a copy of the chat transcript, AS WELL AS, taking screenshots of the conversation. They are currently in Risk Management mode - determining if admitting and covering the repair costs themselves will be cheaper than the few lawsuits that might be brought against them.
I will post an update once the phone arrives. Closest FedEx depot is 2 hours from me, so I don't expect to receive it for a few days even though it is being shipped Overnight Express.

@RobJKR @UpdateH8tr
I am excited 🙂
I'm curious to know what "repaired" means in your cases and whether you have a nice sample letter from the service center where they claim that the error has been traced and fixed.
But I'm positive. Your cases are relatively black and white when it comes to repairs. The devices were not sent in functionally and could only be returned functionally, otherwise the condition “repaired” would not apply.

I just received my phone and it works. Apparently, a full software upgrade and phone reset was performed. While I appreciate that Samsung eventually did this at no cost to me, I resent the way I was jerked around during the process. In my experience, the online chat personnel were reasonably upfront, honest and helpful. However, the message I got when the phone was received at the repair depot, stating that it was not under warranty and offering me options other than free repair, should not have been sent. Also, the support person I spoke with on the phone after receiving this email should not have told me that I would have to pay regardless of what course of action I chose (even simply to get back an unrepaired phone). Evidently, either he was ignorant, or he was lying. In any event, this whole episode has left a sour taste in my mouth and I will be reluctant to pursue any dealings with Samsung, including purchases of Samsung products, in the future.

I received my phone and it works. I just tried to post a detailed message but evidently the forum moderator didn't appreciate what I had to say. Good luck to those still dealing with this matter.

The repair letter from FutureTel says "Full SW Upgrade & Phone Reset", so very pleasantly surprised to find that photos, apps and contacts are all intact.

I have just received my phone back from the repair centre. The phone arrived powered up with all my data still present. After unlocking the screen, the phone went through a brief "finishing setup" and then a "starting phone". I have not received a callback from Samsung as they indicated, however I did get a call from the service centre about 2 hours before my phone arrived at my home, telling me that my phone was being shipped and providing me with the tracking number.
I am content that my phone is operational again, but that does not make up for the anxiety, time and amount of effort I had to go through to accomplish this. Samsung should acknowledge the error more publicly and start repairing their error without hassle to all affected phones whether under warranty or not.
Good Luck everyone.
