Odyssey Neo G9 - connecting two devices (is a pain)

Dear all,

I finally got my 49" Odyssey Neo G9 and have a few questions.

Why does the screen has only one (!) port, which is supporting the full resolution/Hz?

According to the documentation [1] I only get via HDMI 144 Hz max.

Now I have two computer which I want to connect. A gaming PC with a RTX3070, which is connected via DP and a Laptop (ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen. 7), which only supports a resolution 4096x2160@30Hz of on a single HDMI port [2].

The workaround is to have the PC connected via DP and the Laptop connected with two HDMI cables and having the screen in split screen. Then I only have 30 Hz but for work it is acceptable. I also don not think that a docking station would help here - with a second DP port it would work.

Now the pain starts: If I want to switch from one source to another, I have to switch the input source and enable PiP/PBP mode. It takes 13 (!) inputs to the screens menu [3]. Sometimes additional 6 steps, when the picture next to the picture needs to be switched. The whole process is so slow, that sometimes my laptop goes to sleep again and the very short 3 second "no input"-timer from the screen turns it off.

For me this feels so wrong. Either this is a very bad user interface design or I am "holding it wrong". In the latter case, any recommendation would be highly appreciated.

It would be such an improvement, if the screen configuration could be saved on one of the three shortcut keys next to the joystick. These keys are intended to change the settings, but I did not find a way to get it working with the input source. Would be a nice feature, if they would bring this in a next firmware.

My questions:

  • Why did Samsung only foresee one DP port to leverage the fully capabilities of the screen? Is there any technical justification or just a bad decision?
  • Is there a better/smarter way to connect my laptop?
  • Am I doing something wrong for switching the input?
  • Do you know how to file a feature request for Samsung?

Thank you!
