Set or adjust stride length to track treadmill runs more accurately (Watch Active2)

Dear All,

I've just changed from a Fitbit smartwatch to a Galaxy Watch Active 2 (paired with an A8). For most parts it is a relief and almost everything works sweet, but there is one noteworthy annoyance:

It seems it is not possible to set stride length in Samsung Health or anywhere else on the watch. The distances calculated for all my treadmill runs are a way off from reality (approx. -15% when recorded in MapMyRun app).

On my Fitbit there used to be an option to manually correct the stride length to address this issue (plus when runs were tracked with GPS, it was automatically adjusted), but I cannot find such an option in Samsung Health or anywhere else. Could anyone found a solution for this?

If not, i would appreciate if Samsung devs could address this, because all step-based tracking remains to be largely inaccurate like this with Samsung Watches.

Thanks!

The only way you can do this is by adjusting your height.

Go to "My Page" on your Samsung Health.

Select "edit" next to your photo.

Change your height. If you need to increase stride length, have yourself a bit taller. For instance, if you need to adjust the stride 8%, then adjust your height 8%. Try it in increments and see if that makes a difference.

I am about ... a foot taller! And my BMI has gone down significantly lol. But that calibrates perfectly with my treadmill and also indoor track runs (also treadmill).

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, it maxes out around 10 ft. This still leaves it incorrect by 30%

What do you mean by 10ft? Are you 10ft tall??? Be specific please.

A ten foot person is impossible so the only other answer is that the app maxes out at 10 ft. I didn't realize that a physics lesson was required.

It could be that they got this fixed in updates. Mine isn't making any adjustments after changing height neither. It used to. Probably you might have to give more data to have the strides lengths averaged out. Mine is now on spot in inside track runs and treadmills. Lots of GPS runs helped.

The GPS has always been correct even when it unable to connect. The issue is when I run on the treadmill. I've tried increasing my height, reducing my age, and running with the treadmill set to halfway inclined. However, nothing really helps and a half marathon ends up short by 5K. Unfortunately, Samsung is aware of the problem. They're just not interested in fixing it

Darn 5k difference! That's discouraging. The only solution I would do is ask for a total refund, or RMA (aka exchange or fix), or sell it and get something else. Samsung has been running deals on their new watches with old watch exchange programs. But my Tizen 2018 watch (46mm, LTE) never dies so got 2 more from ebay. Better than Garmin so far. But YMMV. Good luck!

I'm on my third Galaxy watch now. Unfortunately, this problem extends across their entire product line. Since the battery is only on lasting a day or two in power save mode. I will need to replace this watch with a new one soon. I just wish they didn't break and die so quickly
