Samsung galaxy watch 3 deep sleep tracking issues

I have had my Samsung Galaxy watch 3 for a few days now, litterally as it came out, I had it.

I was really excited for the watch but there are a few issues with it, mainly the deep sleep tracker is not working properly.

For the first 3 days when I bought it, the deep sleep tracking was working fine. But since then, it keeps telling me that I have 0% deep sleep, or very low percentage like 3%. I know this is wrong as I feel energised.

I have so far read a few articles on people with the same issues.

I have tried doing four things:

1. Factory reset

2. Go to the hidden diagnostic section of the watch by dialling #*0*# (or something like that)

It gave me access to the sensors etc, and I reset the settings, calibrating the sensors with a PASS feedback on all sensors.

3. In the screen wake up section of the advanced setting of the watch, I  turned off Wake-up Gesture and touch wake up. I have bezel wake up turned on.

4. Touch sensitivity, do not disturb, goodnight mode and theatre mode are all turned off.

Please let me know how I can fix this issue... I am very disappointed with the watch so far even though I am a great Samsung fan.

Yeah I've just given up and put mine up for sale. Probably go with a Garmin or something that actually works. With all the great reviews I thought it would be a great watch but, boy was I wrong. Samsung support is just non-existent.

I got my active 3 watch last month and also found that it does not record deep stage sleep correctly.  I wore this watch and a Fibit Charge 3 watch at night for last a couple of weeks to do some comparison.  Samsung watch showed that I had 0 - 3 % deep stage sleep,  my Fitbit watch told me I had 8 - 13% deep stage sleep. I found Samsung watch only record some deep stage sleep in the first one or two sleep cycle (if you had any deep stage sleep), any deep stage sleep in later cycles would not be recorded.   Please let me know if Samsung has a fix for this issue.

I'm having this same issue with the 41mm one... its really disappointing because my other half has the 45mm and his deep sleep looks fine. Mine is 0%-5% which can't be right.

Same issues here with the active 2. Extremely little deep sleep.. Latest software etc.

Either every other fitness device is wrong, and we are all suffering from chronic sleep deprivation, or Samsung's software isn't working.

Disappointing that there just seems to be silence from them on this problem.

It's not just deep sleep tracking that doesn't work. The whole sleep tracking algorithm is botched.

My watch's stats from last night:

Total sleep time 7 hrs

00:04 - 01:37 (1 h 33 m)

00:47 - 05:26 (4 h 39 m)

06:28 - 07:16 (48 m)

So total sleep is the sum of these periods... except two of the periods are overlapping.

Not only is the maths wrong... why is the watch tracking two separate overlapping periods simultaneously? It makes no sense.

And the breakdown by sleep type:

Actual sleep time 6 hr 26 mins

Awake 31 mins

REM 1 hr 23 mins

Light 3 hr 37 mins

Deep 29 mins

So the "actual sleep time" doesn't match the breakdown.

The whole thing is nonsense.

When are samsung going to fix this?

Not sure where you are getting your time interval breakdown. My Galaxy 3 running the latest software update, Tizen 5.5.0.2 and latest S Health app only shows the sleep type time breakdowns. Also, the breakdown times for the stages does add up exactly to the actual sleep time shown.

I have been comparing the Watch 3 with my Fibit Charge 4 over a number of days. At first  the Samsung was showing 0 min deep sleep as others have mentioned. This continued for a few days when suddenly it started showing deep sleep albeit lower than the Fitbit. On a couple of nights it did not register at all but overall I was happy it was at least showing a reasonable amount of deep sleep and I was hoping that given more time the readings might become more accurate for whatever reason. Now it is back to showing 0 or only a a few minutes of deep sleep. Very frustrating. During my comparison I did note that the total sleep time between the Samsung and Fitbit were very close with the sleep start and end times within a few minutes. Actual sleep times were within what I would consider a reasonable margin of error. Likewise for REM sleep time and time awake. The biggest discrepancy I found was in the times for light and deep sleep. Looking at the graphs, the Fitbit would be registering a change to deep sleep periods during a period of light sleep. The Samsung when 'working' would generally be registering the same light sleep periods but would not recognize the deep sleep times, hence the low deep sleep readings. I don't know if this is a sensor issue or a software issue, but I have little hope that Samsung will address this issue especially since the Galaxy Watch 4 will be coming out soon, reportedly with Wear OS replacing Tizen. So now even though I am generally satisfied with other features of the watch the sleep issues are important to me and kind of a deal breaker and I have to decide wheter to return it and wait for the Watch 4. Who knows if the problem will be fixed in the watch 4. Another option is the new Venu 2 which is coming out soon and will feature a new Firstbeat algorithm for sleep tracking. I had a Venu which I returned because the sleep tracking was far off compared to my Fitbit. The new sleep software is running in some of Garmin's higher end watches and from the reviews i have seen is very good

I have the same problem, regarding tracking of deep sleep.
I assume that Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 does not track accurately.

Look what I found regarding National Sleep Foundation :
National Sleep Foundation Partners with Samsung to Provide Sleep Health Education (prnewswire.com)

the article starts by saying that :

WASHINGTON, Aug. 5, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) announced a partnership with Samsung Electronics Ltd to provide millions of Samsung device users with sleep health education and tailored information on the Samsung Health app, available on the new Galaxy Watch3, released today.

Samsung's new Galaxy Watch3 will feature an updated sleep tracking function that will generate a "sleep score" within the Samsung Health app. Users' sleep scores will be accompanied by NSF educational sleep health messages.

BUT IN AN UPDATED ARTICLE IN APRIL 5, 2021:
Best Sleep Trackers of 2021 | Sleep Foundation

The best overall sleep tracker is Fitbit Versa, and no Samsung at all.

The article was written in Aug of 2020 but my experiences have been in 2021 so I assume that my results were with the updated app they are referring to. I was comparing my results with my Fitbit charge 4 which I used as the basis. Most reviews I have seen of the Fitbit claim that their sleep tracking is among the most accurate. However, the reason I wanted to get away from the Fitbit is the fact that in no model of Fitbit can you turn off Bluetooth. You can unpair your phone but Bluetooth is still running on the device. People will say that the amount of bluetooth radiation is small but you are wearing the device directly against the skin sometimes 24/7. I did not want to be exposed to that radiation, however small. You can google the effects of Bluetooth radiation to decide for yourself. At least on the Samsung and virtually every other smartwatch or tracker you can turn off Bluetooth separately or use airplane mode which accomplishes the same thing. The sleep monitoring on he Samsung will continue to track at night even with Bluetooth off. In any event I have given up on the Samsung for sleep monitoring. The new Garmin Venu 2 reportedly uses a new Firstbeats algorithm for sleep tracking but  for me it falls a little short in smartwatch features. So I have decided to return my Samsung and purchase a Tikwatch Pro 3 which leaves me a bit ahead money wise. If I am still not satisfied with the Tikwatch sleep tracking I will probably keep it to use as a smartwatch and purchase an Oura ring for sleep tracking which seems to have good reviews. If all of this seems excessive it's because I have sleep issues and having accurate sleep data will help me to isolate what different activities may have on my sleep patterns.

I still have the exact same problem. I never get any deep sleep. Always 0/3 percent or something stupid. How have Samsung still even responded to this?
