Losing distance on same routes

My Galaxy watch 6 has been recording my walking and hiking workouts ok but in the last few days I've noticed that the recorded distance is shorter, sometimes considerably. During the working week, I walk the same route with my dog daily. It started losing 0.2 - 0.4 miles on the recorded data. The watch was showing the normal distance when I pressed stop.
This morning, the recorded data was half of the distance covered.
I've checked for updates, restarted my phone and watch prior to today. I've done again today but yet to go for our evening walk.
Can I edit the data to include the distance lost?
Thanks, Dave.

@DaveS1973: To begin with, please try restarting your Watch6 to resolve any temporary software issues that might have affected your data. If the issue persists then, as a possible workaround, please head to the Samsung Health app > Work out > Add > Create new exercise > Tap the 'Record distance, speed and route with GPS' switch > Save. Next time you go for a walk, activate this workout option, then check the resulting data.

If you sync your data with the Samsung Health app on a connected Galaxy mobile device, then you may be able to edit the distance data by tapping the list icon in the Exercise section of the landing page > Walking > Tap the 3 dots in the top right > Enter data > Make the necessary amendments > Save.

Thanks for the reply. I had restarted my watch and phone but will do again before my evening walk.
I'll use my watch as normal and if I get issues, I'll try recording directly on the app.
