How are you supposed to backup a Galaxy Watch?

Hello everyone - hope you're having a good Christmas.
Can anyone explain to me how you are supposed to backup a Galaxy Watch 6?
On opening the "Wearable" app on my phone (Galaxy S23) that is connected to my Galaxy Watch 6 there is no "Automatic Backup" option any more, just simply not there. When I dig further into Backup I can see that my watch has no backups - not a single one has ever been made, even though I've had the watch for two weeks.

There is no "Backup Now" there is absolutely nothing in the Wearable app to indicate I an either setup an automatic backup or complete a manual backup.
One Google Search indicated that I now need to use "Smart Switch" (Why? There is a Backup option - so why would I require another app to do this?)
On launching Smart Switch on my mobile it isn't seeing the watch that is currently connected via BT sitting a meter away, instead seems to want me to launch an app on the watch - that doesn't currently exist.

How have we gone from:
Open up Wearable
Tap Backup Now

To me sitting here with absolutely no idea how to get the data saved into the Samsung Cloud as I have been able to for the last x years.

So, if anyone has a Samsung Phone and a GW6 - if you would be ever so kind as to detail how I go about making a backup or switching automatic backups on - or anything really. that would be most appreciated.

When you have your phone on charge and don't use it, it'll start an auto backup for your watch. This happens every 10 days or so. If you use the smart switch pc software to backup your phone, it should also backup the watch. Yes it's annoying to not have any control over it but your best option is to just leave your phone on charge next to you when you go to bed

@StoufferTheCat  As  mentioned it is necessary to use Smart Switch,  Backups are automatitically created periodically.  In the Galaxy Wearable App go to Watch Settings-Accounts and Back up. in Smart Switch Review review required permissions and tap Allow., Ensure Back ups are saved to Samsung Cloud.  Will need to be signed into your Samsung Account, ensure Smart Switch is on the latest update. shown also in this short video ,though  few appear to have issues.

I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.

This doesn't work. If only it was this easy.

n the Galaxy Wearable App go to Watch Settings-Accounts and Back up - Fine

The options showing there are my account, my google account, the date of the last backup (months ago) and save backup to samsung cloud checked.

That's it. Nothing coming up from smart switch. Smartswitch installed but all it seems to connect to are other phones. Yes, latest version installed.

Sorry the video just shows that installing Smart Switch might later do a backup. You do not actually show that a back up has happened which would be more useful. I have everything installed and nothing happens. Samsung I am afraid you should answer the question.

I'm also having this problem. It did an automatic backup 7 weeks ago and nothing since.

Same issue - no way to manually back-up m Galaxy Watch 6 Classic.  Wear app periodically generates notifications that watch hasn't been backed up in over 7 days.  Wear app shows last back-up on 19 April.  I normally wear my watch at night but have left it on charge over-night several times since 19 April, next to my S22+ (One UI 6.1 installed & no currently available updates) also on charge, to see if it would automatically back-up with no indication that that had occurred yet.  Still receiving notifications.

I found that by going in to the Smart Switch app on my phone and doing a backup, one of the things it backs up was "Galaxy Wearable" - which looks to have actually backed up my Watch - and doing that once has made some of the backup settings in the Galaxy Wearable app re-appear.    Time will tell if it has also re-eanbled automatic backups.
