Just got a new 42mm Galaxy Watch and am concerned that steps are doubled if I go for a walk with phone in pocket. 'All steps' are selected in Samsung Health but there is no option to count just Galaxy watch steps. Does this mean my actual steps for the walk are being doubled?! Thanks for your response.

Actually when i started using it on a hikes, it worked more or less fine within 10% error.
I think if you move too irregularly the watch and the phone just register (and skip) different steps/movements.

Many many years later... This subject is intriguing so why not experiment... At 2025, I found when you carry a phone and watch together, only wearable steps are count regardless of Bluetooth on or not. And I noticed the mobile's steps are conservative. They don't count first 10,15 steps.
When one of the devices is carried and the other not, only the bigger numbers are count, i.e. what is carried.
When two devices are walking around totally far away, i.e. phone with me and the watch with my family, then only two devices steps are added all together.
(This experiment is done with the option to be counted from all in setting. )
