White spots and light bleed on UE55JS9000

About 1 month ago I started to experience white spots on the left and right edges of my TV. These have progressively got worse over time to the point where they make the TV unwatchable. This problem seems to be quite common with these models:

Does anyone have a fix outside of getting a screen repaired (which doesn't seem to be possible now)? I'm out of warranty and spent £1800 on this TV only 2 years 5 months ago...

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

My TV is the 48" so my intentions are to buy a 55" JS9000 and cut down the sheet to my size.  There are a few on the likes of Facebook Marketplace, Shpock and Gumtree really cheap (eBay is too expensive).  Let's see what I manage to find as quite a few are located very far away.  I'm sure with patience one will turn up close enough for me to collect.

Hello St3lios,

Can you share how you were able to cut the diffuser panel cleanly?

And how much bigger are flat screen panels compared to curved?  A few millimeters?  Many millimeters?

Thank you in advance!

Hi!

The panel is 2-3 cm bigger, my advice is to cut the panel with a router with thin router bit, i have used a multifunctional tool and it was not perfect,  be carefoul what panel do you use, it is an optic pannel so it has to be a clean cut, you can polish the edge after.

Good luck

Thank you for this reply!

Im actually in the opposite situation as you were in as I have a flat panel but a lot more curved donor TV around me to choose from.

I have a 65" I am trying to repair.  The diffuser looked like someone took a blow torch to both ends.  It was completely charred to the point that hardly any light was traveling through the screen.  So from what you are saying a curved 65" would be 2-3 cm shorter than the original diffuser?

Would a gap of 1.5 cm (half since the diffuser would be centered) be too much?  I assume the diffuser must sit flush against the LEDs for maximum and even light transmission.

If this is the case the only other option, other than finding a the same 65", would be to find a larger panel and cut it down to size.  Cutting acrylic/polycarbonate (not sure which material this diffuser is) is pretty messy with a Dremel (either blade or sanding attachment) as the plastic metals or even a router (as it can easily chip the plastic).  I tried removing the charred ends via this method just for my own edification and found this out for myself.  I even sanded down the ends using 120, 240 and 400 grit paper to smooth it out as much as possible.  In the end I think there was too much of a gap between the LEDs and the diffuser and not much light made it through.  Although it was much better than it was when the charred remains were still there.

I read that using a circular saw with a no melt blade for this thickness would be the best way to go about it and that's what I will do next if I have to cut down a diffuser from a larger TV.

Where are you based as I have a 48" TV and have been looking for a 55"/65" TV to become the doner for the diffuser layer. If it doesn't work out can I (depending where you are) buy the 65" diffuser layer from you please? Let me know, Thanks.

Aside from the diffuser layer there is something please. I haven't taken mine apart could you do an re-assembly video when you put it back together, or do a disassembly viseo. I'm a "have a go" hobbyist, any help is appreciated thank you 😊

Same here. Moved to LG. Simply works out of the box.

I wasn't expecting them to replace a 3 year old TV but at least that they would acknowledge the problem and would give me an incentive to replace with one of their new models. No such look. Always deflected me to technical support partners who said they couldn't help as there were no spare parts to fix the issue - a three year old TV that you can't replace its panel altogether.

Even when they have seducing products I try to move my sight away. Too bad to be true, customer support and satisfaction.
