USB Recording turns on TV

I am testing my TV to record to a USB. If the TV is on it is fine, however, when I schedule to record a series, the TV turns itself on. Can I change any settings to record without the tv bringing itself out of standby?

If the TV is off how can you record anything?

That's sort of my point. I would have thought it would have the ability to record in standby, not turn the screen on from standby which then stays on permanantly. Sort of defeats the point of scheduled recording if the screen is on, especially if I'm away on holiday.

That is my point, the TV requires the tuner to pick up channels and with it off how is that possible? Also the TV does the recording, so no power mean no recording

OK, if that's how it is but seems a bit daft for the TV to just switch itself on and stay on. I would have thought there would be a setting for the screen to stay off when recording. As an example, last night I had it to record Coronation St. The TV is in another room which as I walked past I saw the TV had switched itself on again (to a unused HDMI input) I turned the TV off, into standy, and still the whole program recorded until the end, so it seems it is capable of recording in standby, just the screeen comes on to do so.
