Hi there! I just received my new TV 55s95d and I was wondering is it capable to do timeshift and recording? I tried several different external usb HDDs, but no success. When press play/pause button on remote it says not available. The TV just recognize the HDD as external source.
Thanks in advance!

Hi @Maniakala Recording/Timeshift seems to be supported on this model. Timeshift is activated via the 123 Button , will be an option for Timeshift. https://www.samsung.com/ae/support/tv-audio-video/set-up-and-record-programs-on-a-samsung-tv/
Samsung recommends Drives with an external power supply for the best experi ence, know though that some Members have found USB powered devices to be ok for them.
Some information here: https://www.bluecinetech.co.uk/external-hard-drive-for-tv-recording/

@Maniakala: For a USB device for recording, it is recommended to use the USB hard disk that supports USB 2.0 or later and 5,400 rpm or higher. RAID-type USB hard drives and USB memory are not supported. Please note that you are only able to record broadcasts via the TV Guide, and not via an external device such as a set-top box.
For further troubleshooting steps, please take a look at page 188 of the user manual by following the link below.
For guidance on how to utilise the Recording and Timeshift functions, please refer to pages 120-130.

Same issue here 😥. 32Gbyte WD Elements formatted HDD connected via recommended USB port (power provided via USB port). HDD successfully recognised by the TV but no record or timeshift option comes up when watching TV from satellite dish connected to TV. #frustrated..

Dido for me. I have been trying to record and time shift over the air TV since November with no luck. I tried usb sticks, hard drives, externally powered drives and always get "not available". The manual program auto tune works but not the pause, timeshift, or record. Is there a known workable drive some one can suggest? ... though i doubt the drive is the problem because i can access files on the the tv with each drive i tried. The TV is recognizing them. Thx

Just a fillow up on configurations i tried. I followed Andrew Ls posts and the manual instructiins. All droves i tried were USB 3 rated, had over a Tb of space, and were at least 5400 RPM. I tried WD and Seagate HDD and a Patriots USB stick though the manual suggests those sticks are not compatible. I also tried them in formats of NTFS, FAT32, and exFAT. No joy on any of those configurations. I also tried reboots / hard restarts of the TV. The only thing left is trying a factory reset. Im hesitant because i finally got the TV setup perfectly elsewise and i am not convinced this is the problem. I wish the TV offered a settings backup and restore feature. That would be awesome. Thanks

Another follow up. I tired the factory reset. Still no luck getting it to work with any of the drives. "Not available" when i try pause or record. The one good thing is that my settings and apps were backed up to my Samsung account. TY Samsung. That saved time. Just had to sign into my apps.
I also tried the on line help to no avail - same information provided as above. I will have to call. Bad board? Or DRM in my region?

Waiting for S95D delivery and trying to get a head start on compatibility requirements. One quick question, Has anyone confirmed the recording and time shift functions are active in the USA/Canada? The manual states "This function is not available in the U.S.A. and Canada" under Recording Issues section.

After contacting support found out that in Italy, where I live, recording or timeshift is not supported. The argument is that the Italian broadcasting services have integrated recording and timeshift (only when connected to the Internet I guess). If you just use satellite this does not work or, like in my case, if you watch foreign channels via satellite, you're screwed. The bizarre thing is that in almost all EU countries the function just works. If it is an important issue to you check if other brands have the same limitation. If there is a workaround just let us know..
