What HDD for Timeshift and recording 2023 S95C

I've recently purchased a 2023 S95C television (very impressed and a much needed upgrade from our 2010 PS42C plasma set!), and am struggling to decide what hard disk to buy to record programmes and use timeshift.

The manual states that "For a USB device for recording, it is recommended to use the USB hard disk that supports USB 2.0 or later and 5,400 rpm or higher. However, RAID-type USB hard drives are not supported", but what it doesn't tell me is whether the drive needs its own external power supply or if it can be powered by the TV's USB connection, or if a solid state drive is suitable?

Would welcome any thoughts or recommendations!

Thanks

@madiuQ Samsung recommends Drives with an external power supply for the best experi ence, know though that some Members have found USB powered devices to be ok for them.
Some information here: https://www.bluecinetech.co.uk/external-hard-drive-for-tv-recording/

Is there any progress with recording or timeshift on that TV? Samsung support told me that PVR and Time Shift have not been supported since 2012. I have a 55" OLED 4K QE55S95C (2023). It seems it is some regional (Czech) limitation, and on the support line, they don't know the reason. :grinning-face-with-one-large-and-one-small-eye:

Found a workaround. Go to service menu using remote control button combination:

Press menu, go to settings, go to the sound setting and make sure it's set to "tv speaker" then, while the tv speaker is selected press: MUTE, UP, DOWN, OK (center of directional pad), MUTE

Then enter 1234 (via mobile remote)-> select OPTION -> OK -> Local  Set (EU) -> OK -> select EU_TOTAL -> OK

Which the TV off. Wait a minute and switch it back on.

Add the USB drive (to 5V 1A slot) and select a program from the Program scheduler. You'll see an option of recording. Once selected some pop-up will appear to format USB drive, and again selecting the recording it will speed test the connected USB drive.

Finally select the program again, and you'll receive a confirmation that program will be recorded accordingly.

I hope this helps to enable the recording function in your TV.
