Does anyone have the Qn90d 50 inch that could test something for me?

I'm wondering if there may be a common fault or issue with this specific model. I got a brand new one (EU) a couple of weeks ago. I noticed it popped when turned on and then after turned off but Samsung assured me it was normal and 'within specification'.

After about a week i was using the Now Tv app and notices a flicker/ strobing effect on the left third of the screen that was a constant even when paused. Initially i thought it was only this app so figured it was a software issue. However, i realised if i lower my brightness all the way, i could get the noticeable flicker/ strobing in all apps, even the built in screensavers. Its very hard to notice in nornal brightness for most things but i did notice in specific scenes (when up close and looking for it) you can see the strobe flicker effect still. It remains localised to the left hand side of the screen.

I couldnt find much at all about this online, and most issues similar are much more dramatic and easier to diagnose. I decided in the end to get a replacement as i was within a 30 day period of no questions asked which i havent received yet.

Then yesterday i found this video, exact same model and seems to be almost the exact same issue even down to the specific place the strobing effect stops on the TV.

So now im wondering if this is more widespread. So can someone test this for me? Go into the ambient tab on the homepage, pick any dark screensaver and put the brightness all the way to the bottom and see if the same left hand flicker or strobe effect is noticeable.

If i get the same issue on my replacement i will likely refund and just get an equivillent Sony TV, but I'd want to raise awareness on this as my gut is telling me it may be a big issue with the 50 inch or maybe other VA panels.

Short update. After I contacted Samsung Care, a technician came to me, checked the TV and reloaded the latest driver versions from a memory stick. No result, same problem. I was contacted by phone after a few hours and he said that the problem had been sent to the headquarters, it was known from several sources about this and a future firmware version, available in a few months, will correct this error. I am waiting and hoping that this will happen.

Interesting Samsung are calling it a software issue then. Im less convinced though at the '3 month' possible magic update to fix this. Clearly not top of their priorities.

Very interesting, I’m still not sold on this being an update issue, and for Samsung to not have a rush on this doesn’t fill me with confidence! They are new televisions still being sold that come faulty, fantastic!

Update ,

Samsung found the cause of these problems, I was contacted by the service who sent a technician. Unfortunately, it cannot be solved through software. The cause is the power module board which has several unshielded electromagnetic coils that pass very close to the wires that control a region of the screen LEDs. The solution was simple but required opening the back cover, changing the route of the LED strips. The problem was 90% solved, but I am convinced that better shielding solves the problem definitively. I recommend that you contact Samsung.

Thank you for the update on this. I thought it would be a hardware issue. That’s very bad indeed that we are the ones to have found the problem after they are sent from the factory and still being made like it.

The shocking part is this is a Samsung forum and they haven’t said anything, being multiple posts talking about this fault! It’s actually shocking!
