Does anyone have the Qn90d 50 inch that could test something for me?
I'm wondering if there may be a common fault or issue with this specific model. I got a brand new one (EU) a couple of weeks ago. I noticed it popped when turned on and then after turned off but Samsung assured me it was normal and 'within specification'.
After about a week i was using the Now Tv app and notices a flicker/ strobing effect on the left third of the screen that was a constant even when paused. Initially i thought it was only this app so figured it was a software issue. However, i realised if i lower my brightness all the way, i could get the noticeable flicker/ strobing in all apps, even the built in screensavers. Its very hard to notice in nornal brightness for most things but i did notice in specific scenes (when up close and looking for it) you can see the strobe flicker effect still. It remains localised to the left hand side of the screen.
I couldnt find much at all about this online, and most issues similar are much more dramatic and easier to diagnose. I decided in the end to get a replacement as i was within a 30 day period of no questions asked which i havent received yet.

Then yesterday i found this video, exact same model and seems to be almost the exact same issue even down to the specific place the strobing effect stops on the TV.
So now im wondering if this is more widespread. So can someone test this for me? Go into the ambient tab on the homepage, pick any dark screensaver and put the brightness all the way to the bottom and see if the same left hand flicker or strobe effect is noticeable.
If i get the same issue on my replacement i will likely refund and just get an equivillent Sony TV, but I'd want to raise awareness on this as my gut is telling me it may be a big issue with the 50 inch or maybe other VA panels.

As an update today I got my replacement Qn90d and it does the exact same thing. I'm really not sure what to think.
Either there is a widespread fault with this model or there is some sort of software issue causing this. Or I have been very unlucky.
Either way im very dissapointed and now weighing up my options.

We have also got the same issue and also on our second replacement TV bought from John Lewis. The replacement QN90D50 has the same fault on the left panel just like the first. pulsing with any dull colour or low light! We have tried everything in settings to solve it, but have come to the same conclusion, they must have an issue with this model! It’s really annoying as we have always gone with Samsung but this has put us off now.
not sure what to do as we don't want a TV that doesn't work properly.

I bought two 50qn90ds and on both (!) the same artifact appears on the left side of the screen at low brightness.
It seems like a serious problem that maybe many haven't noticed.

Samsung, do you have something to tell us about this?

We’re on our third one now. Even waited for the shop to get another batch delivered. Still the same issue. Haven’t had any other update from Samsung yet. Something’s definitely not quite wright. Very disappointing.

Just as an update to this, I have kept the replacement I got. I have found with experimentation it seems to be tied to the local dimming setting and overall TV brightness.
If local dimming is set to low, it seems to resolve the flicker as long as brightnss is set to 50 in the settings.
It's not ideal but was the only way I could get it to go away completely. Im starting to think this is a software issue to do with local dimming specifically as numerous people seem to be able to replicate this.

We have also played with x3 of these 90D’s and every single one has the same fault on the left side panel. Local dimming set to off and brightness to max is not pleasant but helps a little. “You shouldn’t have to tweak to not fully resolve the issue” I’m not happy with this television at all! I would like to think and be interested if the new model this year will be any better?!
Samsung seems to be very quiet about this 90D model. I think it’s more than a software issue especially as it’s the end of a panel that has the problem. And when I say end of the panel is a good foot in width SAMSUNG!!
I don’t quite understand how these televisions are passing the factory tests?! “If they even are testing?”
