QN900D 8k TV randomly turns off

After extended use, maybe 4 hours maybe 10 hours, or maybe not related at all to duration, the TV randomly turns off.

The red light is blinking red for 20 seconds, and then it comes back on, you hear the "click" sound which is typical of restarts.

Happens on hdmi output for a PC, hdmi output for a android tv streaming box and integrated streaming app like Plex.

Totally random, I would try to correlate maybe overheating but even on cold days it's the same, 20 degrees room.

Some days it never happens, some days happens twice or three times in the span of 12 hours.

Hi @lexsan and warm welcome 👋

Have you tried any of troubleshooting suggested:

Looking at logs for the first time. Only says this

Power-on Reason, WoL . That's the only event for today as it happened actually today.

I had auto-power off set to default, 4 hours. I set it to OFF and let's see if anything changes. But the device was only powered for less than 1 hour when this last triggered.

I also had Asynet, HDMI-CEC but there were no CEC devices attached today, just a PC today.

Rest of troubleshooting doesn't apply.

Hi @lexsan  Do you have the latest software 1201.8  (released November)  as sometimes these type of issues are caused by outdated software https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/QE75QN900DTXXU/#downloads

By any chance are you using a Power surge, if you have a green light on the surge part should be ok.  However if so try plugging directly into a socket to rule that out.  Whilst you are getting a flashing red light which eventually resolves if this is continually happening  could well indicate a more pressing issue.

Another possible fix though is to hold the Power Button on the Remote for 30 seconds till it hopefully Reboots, unplug from mains for 1 minute and try again.  If no joy an idea to see if a flash reset will work:

Under the Samsung logo on the TV you have a small black button about 2-3cm in from the bottom edge. With the tv turned on
1. press the button at the logo for 5-10 seconds
2. Release the button
3. press the Power button on the TV Remote for 5-10 seconds. Tv goes black and then restarts after a while.

otherwise would need  to contact Samsung Support for advice.  https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/contact/

I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.

None of those apply, the only button under the samsung logo is about Microphone and sound features has been turned off.

I was more looking to see if other clients also have this issue, is it normal or my panel has a problem.

Hello, I have apparently the same issue. The screen blacks out and the LED flashes (last time was 5, 1 long then 3), logo appears and screen comes back on. It occurs ~ once an hour.

I think most probably it's firmware issue.

Because it happens less often if I just use a HDMI output like a PC or set-top-box and more often if I use internal streaming app.

Meaning it's probably a memory corruption, out of memory type of error after long extranenous use.

Update, I swapped in a known good control box and the problem hasn't reoccurred in over a week of ~2 hours a day use. At some point I'll reinstall the old box and see if the problem returns.

Hey my TV is having the same issue and I am unable to find much info online, would you be able to elaborate on the "Control Box" Is that the one that is basically the computer on the back on the TV? How do you switch that? Is there a way to buy another one and replace it?

Ive been trying to find info online about it but I cant find much, is this Control Box the same as the "one connect box"?
