When will updates be made to the Q90R in order to be compatible for HDMI 2.1? Also, who do I get in contact with in order to replace the connection box (or does a new one just get sent)? Do you need to apply for anything - important to get clarity before November when there will be an epic surge of demand for this (new PS5 / XBOX launch).

Shame you need to chase up this for what was a flagship model less than 12 months ago.

Hi from the UK here just tried my qe65q90r with my ps5 and can confirm the ps5 does not recognise the TV as 120hz capable so is limited to 60hz. Samsung have acted poorly after promoting that the TV would get hdmi 2.1, earc etc in the future and now nothing is happening. I'm considering selling and buying an LG oled instead.

Hi,

Yes, issue for me with hdmi 2.1 from my Samsung 8k 2018 QE65Q900R. BT.2020 and 120hz not available in hdmi 4 for ps5 hdr, but hdr rgb are available in ps5 tv signal. TV detect only BT.1886 color and picture are washed out in hdr. Samsung, do you have any solution please? Without game mode no picture at all in this source and I have the remplacement board with hdmi 2.1 on port 4 from Samsung.

I just tested the PS5 on the Q90R and had a hell of a hard time getting it to work on hdmi port4.

It recognized the console, but said the resolution was wrong. I figure it out by turning off input signal plus. Then I fixed the resolution in the initial setup but the PS5 said HDR wasn't available on my tv. Somehow turning input signal plus back on didn't break it again and then HDR was working.

After that I tried playing with the settings and when I turned Freesync the tv went black and the signal never came back.

Absolute mess. Tried messing with the settings all over again and nothing.

It works on a different port though, even with input signal plus on. But I think that place where it describes the resolution and Hz had a different description on Port 4 than Port 3. Still 60Hz though.

Hi,

Yes this is the picture in PS5 in hdmi 2.1 before the graphics bug after a couple of minutes. In HDMI 2.1 the picture are in rec. 709 in this tv not in bt.2020 unfortunately. In summary this hdmi 4 connection is totally defective.

I have the same problem here, they told me it was 2.1
Also on many sites you can see it is. Some people are also talking about port 4  that is 2.1
How do we know? How can we check this? If this is not on this tv we are really cheated by Samsung
It is the same with my SMwart Watch Active 2 they promise ECG, more then a year ago. I still not have it!

It’s easy to see, the port 4 as the hdr rgb validate on ps5 tv signal. This is the proof for hdmi 2.1 but unfortunately the hdr is washed on this port and 120hz unavailable like all other ports in my Samsung 8K 2018.

Port 4 is not HDMI 2.1, it is 2.0b with the maximum allowed bandwidth for upstream (by not having ARC on this port) this allows for 4k 120hz at lower chroma sampling (4:2:0). However, PS5 doesn't see this for some reason. That is the real bug here. On PC you can do 4k 120hz output with 4:2:0 to this TV on port 4 no problem. The best solution would be for Samsung to offer a HDMI 2.1 OneConnect box upgrade purchasable on their site. This way we get all the features of HDMI 2.1 without per-port limitation. For example even with this method of using port 4, if Sony patches their console, we still can't get 7.1 audio to our AVR for home theater setups without using expensive devices to get around it such as the HD FURY integral. This is where HDMI 2.1 support comes in, with full 4k120 RGB/HDR support AND eARC. Samsung has done this for older models, I hope they do it for the q90r series, they were very expensive to not have this feature.

I wish that Samsung will resolve this issue as soon as possible considering that the tv was very expensive.
