My TV is UE 50 RU7402. My speakers are Edifier R1280DB.

If I connect them through optical (toslink), I can't control the volume with Samsung's One remote. When I press volume up or down, the tv shows on screen the word "optical" and nothing happens.

Is there a way to control the volume?

If I understand correctly, when I search through TV settings it is possible to control speakers or AV receivers from other brands when connected with optical cable. So the optical connection  isn't "fixed". Why not having it "open" for all brands?

Is this going to change in the future with an update?

P.S. If I connect them through bluetooth I can control the volume with One remote just fine. But I prefer the sound through optical. Also, I have to re-pair the speakers every time I power on the TV.

I was able to get my remote to work after I:

1. went to settings

2. went to support

3. hit software update

4. then self diagnose

5. start sound test and follow the prompts

My Samsung remote controlled my sound bar after that.
Hopefully that helps somebody out there with these issues.

Same issue, Samsung TU7100 TV, Samsung Soundbar. Tried using bluetooth, connection disappears everytime the tv is turned off (Kinda of defeats the object of cableless connection really doesn't it!?) Switched to digital, optical cable connection, i no longer have control of the volume. Whats the point in having the same Samsung products if the use is completely useLESS...

My tv is UE75TU7092 (tizen OS) . I also was wondering why i cannot control my speakers connected via optical cable from TV remote control. But today i found interesting info. When i play from Youtube app on TV, i can control youtube volume by using paired smartphone, from smartphone youtube app. But the sound is processed on Samsung TV, so this situation confirm, that Samsung TV can output volume level signal through optical cable.  It means that Samsung is programmatically disabling volume control using remote control. Need solutions.

I would like to see this for the major reason of having no volume control leaves my ears blown out from my audio controller.

I have my external audio controller nearly off and the volume my 40" TV outputs makes things so loud that I can't properly use my headphones at the lowest possible volume setting on my audio controller. I may as well have no volume control and just let myself go deaf.

Audio level control should always be available no matter what connectors are being used out of the TV. To that end, I will never understand why controls of any kind in the TV are disabled at any point. If you can't appropriately set the adjustment levels to the min/max the hardware is capable of, then your programmer needs to be fired, along with whoever is suggesting these limits.

If Samsung was blocking control to other brand speakers it would have made sense. Unethical, but there would have been some kind of reason. But they are blocking control even to their own speakers. That shows that this is a problem that should be fixed. They just don't care.

As I've written in previous post, this problem is known for years. Custommer support is non existent.

UE75TU7092 Is a TV that supports sound control via One Remote, but you have to set up the device that will play the sound.

I had the same problem and I solved it after I disconnected all cables, smart card, external HDD’s and other thevices connected to the One Connect or TV.

In order to work, You need th reset all existing connections.

After that, configure the Smart Remote and it will work.

My problem is that it sends audio full blast out the TOSLINK. I then have a TOSLINK to RCA that goes to a volume controller that I have set to 1. At that setting of 1 (supposed to be 5 db), my headphones are outputting 130db. I literally tear my headphones off each time, and can't fully wear them.

None of my other devices, a laptop and a desktop computer (my volume controller setting them to what is generally understood as 9-12, or 55-90db), do this, so I leave them at their respective max outputs. Only the TV TOSLINK is doing this to me, and the easy fix to this problem, in my opinion anyway, is to not have the TV volume setting locked out just because I'm using TOSLINK in digital.

In essence, I have no way of balancing the TV output to my other devices output range.

I have similar (no equal) issue.. i tried to use 2 output audio devices vía optical, but when i connect that, i receive a message "not optical device connected", if i do not use the toslink splitter there is no issue.

I contacted the samsung support and they said "that is not possible to do, we will take it for future fmw upgrades "... but i do no believe that they will do something about that... 😔😔😔

I was very frustrated optical out didn’t work out of the box and I went through all 9 pages of this topic to then give up. I came back one more time with a last try and then it worked for me!

My setup:

I was afraid the switch would mess things up, so I also tried without it in between but that didn’t make a difference in the steps to take. I have this switch to automatically switch from AirPlay through Airport Express or audio from my TV to the amplifier depending on which one sends any signal. With the switch in between make sure it is set to the right TV source manually.

  1. in Source I went to Universal Remote.
  2. clicked Home Theatre
  3. searched for amplifier brand: NAD
  4. chose Optical port
  5. do the Power Test, failed, clicked “No”. Tried again. Failed again.
  6. after a couple fails,  it offers to find the model number, so I found the D3020.
  7. then the Power Test still failed, but instead of stopping, I now just selected “Yes”,
  8. Setup complete

Even though it failed I finished the process and it worked! Changing volume is a bit slow, but that was already case with the NAD remote itself as well. Hope this helped anyone!

Same issue and it happened after an update from SAMSUNG.

I own a 75tu8000 software 2101 when receiving the TV it worked fine no issues.

Now heaps more ads, more bulls**t i cant remove from the apps list.

No more volume control with the optical cable.

SAMSUNG wake up you are going to loose customers this way.

This is my final and last Samsung i had enough.
