Nintendo Switch Not Compatible with Samsung S90C Game Mode - TV Screen Goes Black

When attempting to use a Nintendo Switch with the S90C in Game Mode, the TV screen goes black. Standard viewing works without issues, but enabling Game Mode for gaming optimisation results in a loss of video signal. This issue persists despite checking cables and restarting both the console and the TV.

Game Mode has worked for me in the past, it would automatically turn on once the source was changed to Nintendo Switch, so I know something is fundamentally wrong here.

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:

1. Verified HDMI cables are securely connected.

2. Restarted both the Nintendo Switch and the TV.

3. Attempted different HDMI ports on the TV and different HDMI cables.

4. Attempted different Nintendo Switch Dock.

5. Confirmed Game Mode works with other devices.

6. Factory reset the TV.

Requested Resolution:

Please provide guidance on compatibility between Nintendo Switch and S90C Game Mode settings or suggest configuration adjustments to resolve the screen blackout issue.

Nothing yet. However, I’m still able to connect my Xbox to the TV. So it isn’t all of the gaming consoles. It’s so frustrating because the Nintendo shows up on “latest used” and you see a small screen and you’re able to move around in the Nintendo and you see it but once you press on it through the tv to make it a bigger screen, it goes completely black, or trying to see the settings on the TV, it goes black in a couple of seconds.

Same here with both Switch and PS5, will be trying with better HDMI cable today. I have a workaround, settings>support>device care> hdmi signal> open game mode bar>go back, and the input stays on swtich/ps5. The issue is with game mode, if you edit input to game console, no more black screens but game mode is off. This has to be a software issue

Hopefully Samsung is quick with the fix, but please do update if you figure it out.

I have the same issue. Nintendo switch does not work with my Frame TV. I’ve tried everything that’s mentioned in this thread and it still doesn’t work. When I plug it into my Vizio tv there’s no issue. It’s clearly something with Samsung that’s stopping it from working.

I found the solution. The problem is with the game mode itself, not the consoles, the HDMI cords or settings outside the TV. Why this started happening two days ago suddenly and apparently with no firmware updates I don't know. Anyway, the solution is to go to Game mode settings and activate Game motion plus, under game motion plus settings, make sure it is selected, with blur reduction cero and judder reduction cero, clear motion off. With this settings, game motion plus should show level 1, and input lag shows " faster". No more black screens , everything works fine, my hdmi input for ps5 is set to Playstation 5. When I connected my switch, I had to do the same for some reason, but now game mode keeps settings for both inputs. The quality is good, I play ratched and clank at 4k , vrr and hdr on(console settings). The only thinf is that now input lag on the game mode shows "faster", not "fastest", how important is that in real life in ms nor sure, but no more black screens no matter what I do. Unbelievable Samsung has been dealing with this since 2022 according to my reasearch, anyway, that's my two cents, try it and let me know.

It says that the motion plus settings are unavailable for some reason.

You have to be with the Game mode on and on the console (on) in their respective HDMI input, activate game motion plus, and then on the game motion plus setting follow my instructions. If you cannot see the screen because it is black, do not disconect hdmi cable, just get to it throught menu, support, device care, self diagnosis, hdmi signal, noise, until you see the screen and bring on the game bar.

Update:

The Samsung Care technician went yesterday to my house and he ended up talking over the phone with another technician in a remote location, acckrding to him, the problem has been documented before and is "under review by the engineers". It seems that they have tried changing the boards and the issue comes back, it could be a software issue, not sure. In the meantime I continue to play with game mode on and motion plus level 1( faster latency but not the fastest)

@tudian Any update on the engineers finding a solution?
