New Tyzen update for 2023 QLED TVs brought changes to VRR logic

Hi! After updating my Q80C to the latest Tyzen via Wi-Fi i noticed a significant change in how VRR works. Of course it may be caused by other factors, but then it would be a weird coincidence that I noticed this change right after the update.

So I noticed that VRR became more responsive and works smoother and better in fast paced games. However, the stability is much lower than before, it may occasionally flicker in scenarios where previously it wouldn't. Normally I'd get flickering only on load screens when FPS is lower than 48Hz min VRR rate. However, with the new update I notice flickering in some other scenarios. At the same time, like i said, the image motion clarity is much much better, I think they did something to VRR logic and sacrificed with stability.

Just wondering if anyone else noticed these changes after the Tyzen update for 2023 line up or similar model. Or maybe someone heard that update might bring such changes on a low hardware level. Would appreciate any thoughts and feedback on that matter.

Can confirm the flickering issue on 43" QN90C after Tizen 8 upgrade. Happens e.g in some scenes in Hogwarts Legacy on balanced mode in certain situations on Standard PS5 (not pro)

Yes, this seems to be a drawback for faster response and better handling of fast-paced scenes. In some case frametime is not that stable as it could be due to more complex rendering and old VRR logic couldn't keep up with those causing terrible frame skipping. They surely fixed this long-term issue with the newest update making VRR more smooth and responsive. However, it's now very sensitive to even small frametime fluctuations at higher frame rates which is causing that occasional flickering. Flickering is quite normal on loading screens when FPS drops to 10-15 and fluctuates. However now it can flicker at higher frame rates. Let's hope Samsung representatives will read this post and maybe find a solution. However, like i said, reverting VRR back to what it was may not be good as it is too laggy for fast camera rotations and etc. We just need more stability at higher framerates i guess.

Several games result in different results.

No man sky on standard ps5: fps constantly moving between 60 and 50 fps in 1fps increments (heavy gpu load scene).... no flickering

Hogwarts legacy in balanced graphics mode: 120 fps with cyclic drops to 48 (according to game mode display) while not moving camera or character.... slightly flickering of the forest in background (brightness flickering frequency is several hertz, but it is noticable) in a nighttime scene near dawn. Also this game feels less smooth graphicswise than before the tizen 8 upgrade.

I think, I wish for some fine tuning of the new vrr-logic to make graphics not flicker or giving it a "vibrating" feel, which is not pleasent while neither moving camera or game character.

Haven't had any issue with the old vrr-logic apart from still having some screen tearing in some games (SW. Jedi Survivor on performance mode. Vrr helped much but didn't completely rid of sporadic screen tearing on fast camera turns back then, when i played it last time (60 fps at max) ). Hope this should be better now ?! Don't have the game installed atm to make a comparison how the tv behaves with the new vrr logic.

Does Samsung read this? Can we file our infos a bugreport?
