Issues extending MacBook to Samsung TV

Hello all,

I’m trying to connect my MacBook to my Samsung TV. I plug the adapter (has a USB-C cable attached) into the laptop, and I then run a HDMI cable from the adapter into the TV.

The MacBook detects the TV too, as it appears in display settings and by all accounts on the MacBook end, it works. However, the TV shows No Signal, even though the port is showing as ‘awake’.

I’ve done some experimentation. For example, plugging the USB-C into my iPhone or iPad works with no issues. Alternatively, plugging the MacBook into a different screen works too. Therefore I don’t think it is an issue with the adaptor or cable as any other combination works with no issue. It is only this certain combination of MacBook + this TV which fails to work.

Safe boot makes no difference. TV firmware is up to date. Have altered the resolution used too with no luck.

MacBook Air, M1 2020. Sonoma OS 14.1

TV is Samsung UE75NU7100, Smart TV.

Any help is gratefully appreciated.

Have done the self diagnosis test on ‘Signal Information’. It states 720x480/50i. The MacBook is certainly not outputting the resolution at that, and changing the resolution doesn’t seem to edit what shows on Signal Info any way. Any ideas?

I have the same problem. I can connect my MacBook Air to an old Samsung Smart TV using HDMI, but my new Samsung Serif TV cannot see the connection. It can connect with an iPad. Doesn't matter which HDMI port I use.

I had the same issue, and tried a lot of things. Like the cable worked for PS4/5 but not the Mac so I had to use a Ultra High Speed HDMI which was less than 2m as weak signals affected the connection point.

I faced same issue and solved by trying to change Samsung TV display seting on the mac to 25/30 HZ and then back to 60. It did the trick. It seems there could be problems with 60HZ and 4K TVs
