Failed Optical Audio Out

I need a hearing aid, so we've rigged a Miccus Home RTX 2.0 Wireless Transmitter to relay sound to an

SR-71 Stealth Headphone.  The RTX-2.0 receives audio signals from the Samsung set (UN50MU630DF) via an Optical/TOSLINK digital optical cable.

This set-up is duplicated for my computer, so when the TV's set-up failed one morning, I was able to

exchange the 2 set-ups.  The set-up taken from the TV functioned perfectly.

I examined the TV's optical port, to find a steady, red light that did NOT vary, i.e., flicker with the TV's sound, as heard from the set's speakers.  That flickering can be seen in the computer's optical port when the computer produces audio signals.

I suspect that the TV's optical generator is kaput.  I'd be grateful for any advice.
