Hello everyone

I have a Galaxy Tab A (SM-T290), which my granddaughter uses for gaming.  Problem is that the internal drive is far too small for the myriad of games she wants to play, consequently I bought a 500GB SD card and moved the games over to it, however, new games still download to the internal drive, so I am always being warned of low disk space, whereas the SD card is hardly touched.

My question is, how do I make the SD card the internal drive without destroying the operating system, so that the tablet automatically downloads new games and updates to the larger drive?

Or, how do I get the tablet to either download to the SD card by default, or let me choose the SD card as a destination for the download?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Straight answer: You cannot make the SD card the primary storage. Nor can you specifically tell it to download games to it.

You should be able to move them directly to the SD card, removing them from the main device's storage.

From Samsung: "Not all apps support SD card use. If you are unable to follow the steps below, the app you are trying to use may not be compatible. Moving an app to an SD card may leave some data on your internal storage. This is not an error. If data has been left on your internal storage, then it is necessary."

Open the Settings app

2Tap Apps

3Tap the app that you want to move

4Tap Storage

5Tap Change

Please note: if you do not see the change option, it may not be possible to move this app to an SD card.

6Tap SD card

7Tap Move

To "force" apps to install on an SD card, you need to enable a developer option on your Android device called "Force allow apps on external storage

@Crustyoldbloke  In any case I do not  think it is advisable to run Apps/Games from  an  SD card, internal storage will alweays be faster.  To run Games (if compatible)| from the SD card without lags would require a fast Data Transfer SD card.

I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.

Thanks John, that is what I do now.  I will look into the developer option.

Thanks James.  I have two half terabyte cards, the one in this tablet is a fast Data Transfer SD card, cost almost as much as the tablet.
