Speaker on J3 2017 only works with headset

Any suggestions to rectify ?

I can hear people when i make or receive a call but they can not hear me unless I plug my headset in

Hi @GSH1. Please dial *#-*# and select LOOPBACK. Select the microphones and say a few words. Can you hear yourself being played back through the speaker?

I tried this but could not hear my self.

Okay, please try it again in Safe Mode. If it works during this, it indicates a third party app is causing the issue. Restart your phone but whilst it's powering up, keep the 'Volume Down' button held until you reach the home screen. If done correctly, Safe Mode will be displayed in the bottom left corner. Let me know how you get on with this.
