@Mollymay Additionally ensure all apps are up are up to date. if go to Settings-Apps-Google Play services -Storage -clear cache does that make any difference? May need to uninstall and Reinstall Google Play services , go to Apps-Google play services-App details.
If any third party apps have been added lately may be best to uninstall as sometimes there can be a conflict but may not be the situation with this device.

Found the solution, remove any passkey\fingerprint (set to none) or temporarily disable it while setting up an accessory or app.
