Stuck on Pattern Screen

Hi,

I have an old Samsung (S20 I believe) and a new S24. I no longer use the S20 but I have one app on the phone which I still need the phone for.

Problem:

When I turn on the phone and enter the pattern, either the screen will turn black for a few minutes and will not unlock or the screen just stays on the pattern screen and does not unlock.

I am not sure if it matters but the pattern  unlock screen now says 'draw pattern after reset' instead of 'draw unlock pattern'.

I have tried running down the battery. I have tried restarting the phone. The phone resets when I try to open in safe mode so I am just stuck in a neverending loop. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance, Stephen

Isn't it possible to re-download the app to your S24.
Otherwise you might have to do a hard reboot by holding down the power button and volume down button, which will wipe the phone.
But it might not be a bad idea to do if your S20 backed everything the last time(s) you used it.

Thank you for the reply. I do have the app on the new phone but, I need to use the old phone 'for security reasons' before using it on the new phone.

I have held the volume down button and the power button but the phone just reboots then and am stuck with the same issue.

When you do it that way a screen is meant to come up, where you can choose wipe the phone. @BandOfBrothers should know the full process, personally, only done it once with my daughter's ZF4, she couldn't remember her password, and was trading it in for a S24U.
I do remember that a screen came up, where I used the volume button to scroll to wipe, and power button to execute

Power the phone off fully, then hold volume up and power buttons at the same time, keep holding until the phone vibrates and the recovery screen pops up, use the volume keys to navigate to the appropriate option.

Thanks again for the reply. No screen has come up sadly. I tried the same on the S24 and the screen still does not appear.

Thank you for the reply. Sadly, this did not work. I just got an error message stating:

  • Clear Cache Files from the phone's System Partition Section  > https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-do-i-clear-the-cache-on-my-device/ You may need to insert your earphones or hook upto a powered On Laptop or use a Tv's USB Port or a usb-c to usb-c phone to phone set up to access the Clear Partition Section. This may help with lag or stutters as this clears the phone of old/unused or broken cache files.There is also a Repair Apps option in the Menu System too { Possibly excluding the s²⁴ Series of phone's }

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.

*Edit* I was able to clear the cache partition in the system partition section using volume up reset. Sadly did not solve the issue.

Thank you but I am not sure how to get to the cache when I cannot progress past the pattern unlock screen. I have plugged the phone into my laptop via USB as well but I don't seem to see any connection between the
