My s20's screen died today and the phone did still function but the screen was black so unlocking the phone seemed impossible, until I found this work-around solution!
I connected the phone to a monitor (using a dock/dongle), which then showed me a grey lock-screen with the time shown but completely grey with no background picture or information on the screen.
Had no luck with connecting an external mouse or keyboard to the dock/dongle, this didn't respond at all; the screen just remained stuck in a grey lock-screen.
>>>. The solution was to use another phone to call my phone, while it was connected to an external monitor. This way, on the monitor it showed the incoming call. When then swiping from the top down, the menu with notifications appeared; including some notifications like that the phone was rebooted. >>> Pressing on the notification, the actual unlock-screen appeared with the numbers shown 0-9 etc. Then entering the passcode to unlock the phone by tapping on the screen's phone at the right places / or using an external mouse to click your passcode.

Go to settings, remove the passcode.
Hope this helps many people like me, to still access all your files and photos, and back them up before giving up and throwing away the phone!
