SMS notification problem

Hi. Not sure what's happened but now, when I get an SMS from someone, it arrives silent with an alarm bell crossed out and I have to highlight the message and select the notification bell to turn it back on. Have to do this with every new person I get texts from....never had to before. Also, I don't get delivery alerts anymore and can't find where to turn them back on.
This only happened after I switched supplier from virgin to O2. Can anyone help?

What messaging app are you using? Samsung or Google?

O2 and Virgin ate now the same company. Your message are more than likely set to silent notifications.

They merged, yes, but I had to cancel my sim and take on an O2 one...they're staying separate in that respect. Never had a problem with notifications and they work on everything else, just the text messages that seem to have gone squiffy.

Also, checked and they don't seem set to silent. A tone is selected and works once the bell with the line through is cancelled, its just that all texts from a new contact come in silent and I cant seem to change it. I'm obviously missing something somewhere.

Right...this could be my issue. On the notifications section there is no 'advanced' setting but it does say "3 categories deleted"
Seems I may have to reinstall?
I'll try and do this and thank you for your help....this may be where my message received notification has disappeared to

Yep....cleared cache and cleared data on messages app and that's fixed it 👍
