S21 Bad Camera Quality

Just recently got the S21 and I'm so disappointed with the camera. The photos it takes are grainy, blurry, low quality and look like something a phone in 2008 would've taken. My S8 took much better quality photos, even in poor lighting. Wish I could just get another S8 at this point.

Please compare the photos of my cat on the S21 vs S8. The S8 took those photos when its back casing was falling off, yet they still look a million times better than from my brand new phone.

My last issue is I often take photos of book text and documents, and the S21 camera blurs nearly the entire text! I have tried going into settings and turning scene optimiser on and off but nothing is working. I'm at the end of my rope here.

Just switched from iphone11 and same gritty pictures with EVERY mode combination. This phone is going back! I already told some friends the 6 and 8 were better and you proved it with the 8.

I completely agree. My S21, SM-G991B/DS exact version, has an awful low light camera. My S9 was far, far better.

If I can't fix this with software or updates I'll be moving brands. Very disappointed.

I agree with you on some aspects of latest cameras on s21 and s22.

It has plus and minus comparing to iphone cameras on latest iphones:

 1) In a perfect artificial room lighting., Samsung phones take normal sharp, true to eye color quality photos without deepening any skin tone or anything else. Iphones on the other hand have bad noise reduction software algorythm and due to this flawed softaware algorythm over smooth face and other objects, thus removing sharpness and detail from photos.

2) In anything other than perfect artifical lighting conditions all samsung phones (s21,s22 as tested by me) take horrible unpleasent skin tone  (very dull tone ) and band background tone. Especially struggle in contrast lighting when taken in bright area like Times Square where artificial lights from comercial bill boards constantly produce very contrast mixed colors. iPhones on the other hand always add more pleasant brightness and more pleasant warm tone to photos but also like i mentioned earlier over deepen everything. This means any skin imperfection , iphone makes this marks or redness on your face will look worse than people see face to face.

@Reknil

Hi. How did you get on with Watchdog? I'm also struggling with the picture quality from my brand new S21 and am shocked that it is worse than my old phone - a budget Moto G8. Noisy indoor shots, poor colour accuracy,  and distortion at edges of the frame.

@ What the hell are you on? Trying to be all high and mighty trying to explain "photography error" to someone talking how the picture quality of his cat pictures is horrible and worse with a newer Samsung vs an older phone. It has nothing to do with deph of field and lighting technique and everything to do with the phone having a worse quality picture. Please try to be helpful instead of condecending, it's a bad look being. HERE'S two picture taken at the same time with the exact same condition, one from an Galaxy S10, and the other from my newer s21 fe, guess which is which? hint : the s10 picture is actually readable. 318649733_818272785902031_508554128855614108_n.jpg317826947_1114709649093286_2999697359694339779_n.jpg

I love how this thread ended. With facts. I am amazed at how bad the quality of photos is on the S21 FE. Just a few moments ago I wanted to look at my photos from vacation and was absolutely stunned at how awful they look. The algorythm samsung uses to create jpegs is an absolute joke. Oversharpened details and smudged. It's unbelievable. I give you my word that my samsung digimax 202 camera from 2006 had the exact same issues. They have no idea how to take a raw file and make it decent, the S10 was probably a huge exception or something.

Thanks for bringing this up. I went from an iphone 6s to the s21. I was using 6s to take amazing photos of bugs and plants. I was also using it to scan documents that looked just as good as any scanner. The s21 is completely disappointing for all of these thing.

I have the same cr*ppy photos. My S10 was better. This one is too dark. Blurry and pixels.  More than half of the photos are like that.  Disappointed.
