Hi,
I recently updated my phone to the new Android update. Then yesterday evening my phone dumped its power, going from around 16% to 0% in less than 5 minutes. I wasn't using the phone at the time and the screen was off - although I had just checked for notifications at 16%.
The battery history in the settings shows that the battery power went vertically downwards.
After restarting the phone, I found it unresponsive. I've since figured out that it's the top half of the touchscreen that is unresponsive, from about the level of the power button upwards. It will work on occasions, and so is not completely broken, but otherwise no swipe of press in this portion of the screen has any effect. The screen is not damaged in that portion of the phone - there is a very faint hairline crack in the lower half of the screen on the lower left side, but this is over a year old.
I have restarted the phone many times, deleted the cache partition, and closed all open apps - not of which has worked. On a rare occasion it has work perfectly again, only to then stop working.
I hadn't installed any new software, changed the settings and the phone does not have a virus or other malware.
I'm not sure if it's related, but if I hold the power button, the menu has the power off button greyed out now, so I can only restart it - if I want to shut down I need to hold the power and volume buttons down.
Are there any suggestions on how to fix this without having to do a factory reset? Thanks

This is happening to me too!!! Note 20 Ultra 5G. I have hit lettes (there, that's an example) twice to type something. Very frustrating. If it happened before Ver 12, it was my error. But this is definitely an update issue. I also noted the screen flicker (brightness going up and down). I went into setting to ee if my touch sensitivity had changed in the update. Nope. So, it's an update issue. Yes, Samsung please fix this!! I was looking at the process to downgrade to 11 but too scary for me on a $2000 phone!!!!

Hi, I'd contact customer support, or take it to a repair centre. When I've spoken with Samsung, they admitted it was a software fault from the update, which would be covered by the warranty, but wouldn't repair the software without also replacing my screen - which wasn't covered by the warranty and so the repair would cost me £300.
I said no, and so they gave me £50 in Amazon vouchers - which was supposed to compensate me for a broken phone. They said that they would never change their mind on this now, and so under no circumstances would they now repair the phone - that's their policy apparently.
I use my phone for work and so had to get a new one, and so went for a Pixel 6 Pro. I'll never get a Samsung product again.

Galaxy S20 touchscreen unresponsive after Android 12 update. I'm able to swipe down from top of screen to get to quick settings. And I can access the 3 -button navigation at bottom of screen. But middle of screen is unresponsive. I can't access anything from home screen or swipe left/right from home screen. When I'm in the Settings screen I can navigate through all menus and sub-menus so I know the screen works. If I restart by pressing the off/on button and down volume, then everything works for about a minute, then screen is unresponsive again. This is how I'm able to get to the settings screen.

I have Samsung note 10+. I have the same issue. About half inch down from the top I can't drag the top notification bar down and for example if I'm in chrome browser I can't touch the top bar to type in the search or bookmarks etc. I have to rotate the screen.
Really disappointed in Samsung for such a rubbish update and not checking for glitches.
There's loads of people with the same issue. And no fix. Ridiculous!
Now I can go get a new Samsung and run the risk of this update mucking up a new phone. Or go get an iPhone fir same price. I prefer Samsung. But I use my phone for everything. So I need all 4 corners functioning for invoicing.

I found a work around. If you cycle back and forth between the bottom buttons,( the home button shaped like a square and the recent button shaped like 3 vertical lines), you can swipe the screen for awhile. It will always eventually stop swiping but just cycle the buttons again. It's a pain but it works.

I had this problem on my girlfriends S20 and figured it had something to do with some app that is malfunctioning, since the top and bottom work and also work fine in the settings menu. I found out that FB messenger app somehow didn't close and made the most of the screen unresponsive. Force stop it in through settings and it works again. Hope this helps. Best of luck

This is happening to me too. No damage to phone. Only non-responsive on the home screen, I can only get home button to work when this happens. I have restarted numerous times. All updated...
