I accepted an update to my phone yesterday, and now when I edit any photos, the original disappears. It's not even in the trash. It's just gone. It never did this before. Indeed, I could edit a photo or crop it etc... a hundred times and save it and it would never eliminate the previous version of the photo. Is there a setting somewhere that needs to be reset??

Yes. Just open the pic in the editor in which you had cropped/altered the original image. Now select 'discard changes/revert'. That's it. This holds true for my galaxy S20+.
Having said that I liked the old way (in which the original stays) better.
Cheers!

Yeah you can revert it back... but what if I want to keep both the altered and the original one? No luck. I have to redo all the editing again. And since I'm accustomed to the way it was before I often forget to do it.
They could've at least put a disclaimer/warning... although a toggle would be best.

If you click to edit the photo again, you'll see the original photo.

This should be the default.... Or at least be able to permanently change it to the default.

That is stupid, when space was expensive it might have been smart. Now its just stupid like most things Samsung. This is my last Samsung product(s20+). Camera i *****, logic of system is ***** and security might be good but cant be used since logic is *****. Ai is *****. My Samsung tv has all the same problem in system. This is logic problem of developers.

So this happened to me after I updated my Samsung Note 10+ but I figured out the sequence:
1.) Take picture
2.) Open picture and edit (ie: write something with the stylus), then save.
3.) Open the edited picture from your gallery and click on 'edit', then select 'Revert', then select 'Revert back to original', DO NOT CLICK SAVE, instead click, the 3 dots in upper right hand corner and select 'Save a Copy'
Once complete, you will see both copies. And yes, I know it's extra steps but at least this will get your original pictures back IF you want them.
