Samsung’s One UI 7 Delay: What Went Wrong & What’s Next with One UI 8?

Samsung’s One UI 7 update has been one of the most frustrating rollouts in recent memory. Originally expected to launch alongside Android 15, the update faced multiple delays, leaving users waiting for months[43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054](https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-one-ui-7-delays-embarrassing-3544429/?citationMarker=43dcd9... "1"). Just when it finally started rolling out, Samsung abruptly halted the update worldwide due to serious bugs affecting device unlock functionality[43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054](https://www.androidauthority.com/one-ui-7-update-halted-3544233/?citationMarker=43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b... "2").

Why Was One UI 7 Delayed?

Lack of Communication:

Samsung remained silent for months, leaving users in the dark.

Buggy Rollout:

The update was pulled after reports of devices failing to unlock[43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054](https://www.androidauthority.com/one-ui-7-update-halted-3544233/?citationMarker=43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b... "2").

Slow Adoption:

While Google’s Pixel devices received Android 15 in October 2024, Samsung users had to wait until April 2025[43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054](https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-one-ui-7-delays-embarrassing-3544429/?citationMarker=43dcd9... "1").

What About One UI 8?

With One UI 7 struggling, Samsung is already shifting focus to One UI 8, expected to launch alongside Android 16 later this year. The company promises a smoother rollout and improved stability, but users remain skeptical after the One UI 7 fiasco.

Should You Wait for One UI 8?

If you’re still waiting for One UI 7, it might be worth skipping it altogether and waiting for One UI 8. Samsung is likely to prioritize stability and faster updates this time around.

What’s your take on Samsung’s update delays? Are you still holding out for One UI 7, or are you ready to move on? 🚀

Sorry but One UI7 wasn't delayed.

At no point did Samsung publicly state a rollout before 7th April.

The rollout commenced 7th April.

Yes, a serious bug was found and there was a short hold on rollout of a few days but the bug was promptly fixed and the rollout restarted.

Sorry but most of your post is factually incorrect and the result of speculative Web reports, not facts.

The first version of OneUI 7 works well, fluidly and without bugs on my S24 ultra.

is speculative that other models received Android 16 last October 2024? And that UI7 was rolled out this April 2025? And that it became buggy as was recalled? Let's be factual!

And now I received patch of OneUI 7. OneUI 7 (all or patch) is available to download in UK and EU

Maybe other devices have received Android 15 last October and beyond.

One UI7 is based on Android 15 but also offers a lot more than stock Android.

Yes, there was a critical bug found so Samsung did the right thing by pausing. This happens to every software manufacturer across the globe including Apple, Microsoft and others.

Your post is factually inaccurate. Sorry but that is they way it is.

I was looking forward to a more refined argument which is not captured in your answer but here is what I think:

Samsung's customization of Android 15 into One UI 7 indeed involves significant effort, which has contributed to the delay in its release. Here's why:

  1. Complex Customization: Samsung doesn't just adopt Android 15 as-is; it transforms it into One UI 7, adding unique features, design elements, and optimizations tailored to its devices. This process requires extensive development and testing to ensure compatibility across a wide range of Samsung products.

  2. Revamping the Interface: Samsung is reportedly reworking One UI 7 from the ground up to improve animations, user experience, and performance. This includes bridging the gap between smartphones, tablets, and smart TVs, which adds to the complexity.

  3. Extended Update Support: Samsung aims to provide updates for its devices for up to seven years. To meet this promise, the user interface must be robust and future-proof, requiring additional development time.

  4. Bug Fixes and Stability: The delay also stems from Samsung's cautious approach to avoid releasing a buggy update. For instance, the rollout was temporarily halted due to issues affecting device unlock functionality.

In summary, while Android 15's development lays the foundation, Samsung's customization into One UI 7 involves extensive refinement and innovation, making it a more labor-intensive process. This explains the profound delay in its release. What are your thoughts on Samsung's approach?

I had OneUI 7 since December so I'm not sure what you're even on about.

My first official OneUI 7 was in February.

Samsung, or any other manufacturer for that matter, have never released public versions of the latest OS alongside Google. This false claims you make about OneUI being released alongside Android 15 sounds more like a child's wishful hope.

OneUI 8 is becoming the necessity because temper tantrum customers want 5 pixels changed to an element in the UI every 2 weeks.

Hello,

I am extremely dissatisfied with the recent update that changed the App Drawer scrolling from horizontal to vertical. This new vertical scrolling feels uncomfortable, disruptive, and negatively impacts my user experience.

I strongly prefer the original horizontal scrolling and would like the option to choose my preferred layout.

Please consider adding a setting to allow users to toggle between horizontal and vertical scrolling in the App Drawer, rather than forcing this new behavior.

Thank you for your attention to this feedback. I hope you will prioritize giving users more control over their experience in future updates.
