Photo Folders lost when transferred to new phone

I recently upgraded from and A12 to an S23, and used Smart Switch to transfer data.

over the period of many years I had categorised all my photos (more than 9000) into folders.

Unfortunately smart Switch disregarded the folders and moved all 9000 of them into "Recent photos" , which was not very helpful at all.

As I still have the old phone, is there any way of copying the folders accross the gallery on the new phone?

Easiest way is plug that phone in to a computer and copy them off and then copy to new phone

Many thanks for this. I'll give it a go.  Just a bit frustrating that Smart Switch doesn't do it during the transfer.
