Email app not syncing with gmail

Reading or deleting email in Samsung app does not show as read or deleted on Gmail desktop ie the app is not synchronising with Gmail. Does anyone know how it if this can be fixed or I need to find another email app.

The email app does not sync as well as the original Gmail app or desktop website, it takes longer.
