i assume this is a setting im just too blind to find, but ive been searching for so long so id appreciate the pointer. if i turn the phone off and on again to get to the lock screen it automatically unlocks itself. it doesnt do it if i dont touch it for a bit but i cant get to the lock screen without leaving it for a bit. i assumed it was because i had fingerprint added but disabling it doesnt seem to help

Thank you for your question.
At first sight, this looks like you don't have a screen lock or SIM lock at start up but you may have a display lock which will kick in at whatever timeline you ask it to do so.... See here
Settings
Display
Screen Timeout
I personally would also recommend you set pin number number(s) or similar for your SIM and display.

ive got a pattern and a fingerprint added, its not the timeout. like if i try to quickly go back to the lock screen without leaving it off for 30 seconds or smth itll auto unlock. i assume theres a setting with something like keep unlocked unless off for x amount of time but i cant find anything similar. on my a12 i could just double press the on button and it'd take me to the lock screen. is that not a thing anymore?

I'm not able to replicate your issue though. On my S24 Ultra, as soon as you turn the screen off, it requires a fingerprint or pin to access the screen again.
