Modes and Routines

I'm using the S25 with a Mode and a Routine for listening to audiobooks. I've created both for one reason: neither is working as it should, so I tried them together to see if I'd get some luck. I didn't.

Supposedly, I want the phone to enter vibration mode when I have Audible or Nextory open, as I don't want my book to be paused by each annoying notification I get, and for the first week I had this phone, it worked perfectly, until it didn't. Nowadays, the routine activates when I open the audiobook app, but as soon as the phone screen closes, the routine is deactivated, even tho the app is still on and I'm listening to the audiobook.

I've tried everything I found to the routine to continue working while the screen is closed, but nothing worked. Would anybody have any tips? It's annoying that there's an option to the routine to activate automatically, but it fails as soon as the screen closes.

@Natyscacci: It is possible that your S25 is registering the screen timeout as the app closing, and this is ending the routine prematurely. What you may wish to do is add another action to the 'Then' part of the routine, and increase the screen timeout to 10 minutes while you're reading, so it won't timeout automatically.

Alternatively, you could create the following routine:

If > App opened > Audible > Then > Do not disturb > On

Let me know if this helps.

Amend the routine to keep the screen on for longer maybe. As long as you are on audible it will be active. Moment you chose/swap out of it will disable as audible as not active in foreground even if playing in the background

Well, I cannot have the phone screen on all the time. For example, if I'm outside walking, on a bus, in a store... it makes no sense to have my phone screen on. Any button can be clicked by mistake. I just need the phone to understand that while Audible is playing the audio, it's on, so it's not supposed to end the routine. Screen open or closed, if Audible is open, the mode/routine should work.

I have exactly this setting here, but with vibration mode instead of do not disturb:

If > App opened > Audible > Then > Vibration mode > On

I cannot have the Do Not Disturb option because I'm an entrepreneur and receive calls, so that's not an option. That's why the vibration, the audio will not stop when receiving notifications, and I'll still be aware if I receive a call.

For example:

  • I use a Sleep routine that keeps the phone silent between certain times, and continues working with the screen off.
  • I have a Work routine. When I activate it and the screen goes off, it continues working.
  • I have Exercise and Driving routines that always activate when it understands I'm at the gym/car.

So, all those work perfectly, the only one that insists on stopping working when the screen goes off is the Audiobook routine, and I have no idea why.
